Owned since new. A 330d not a 335. 30,000 miles approximately.

Total maintenance cost, plus a jacking point and touch up paint comes in at £526.

Insurance just over 700€ per annum. That's fully comp for the whole of Europe (including Uk), any driver over 25, and breakdown cover (with recovery to home) again for the whole of Europe. No road tax in France.

I don't want to think about depreciation. Actually I wrote off the purchase cost when I bought it, so it's not really a factor.

Not a 335i, but a 330i with 87k miles. Over the past 2 years and 25k I've had to do the following. These costs are simply maintenance related costs and do not include mods. I was working out the cost of running my 330i, including maintenance and depreciation the car has cost me 9k.

so i think the point is that 335is may not be as cost hungry as other big engined BMWs

I guess the 2k I've spent on it this month is a bit of an anonymity, I could have just got 6 months tax & maybe got another month out of the tyres.
To be fair I hadn't had to spend to much on it this year in repairs just a radiator, 6 coils & 6 plugs. The inter cooler & gearbox map weren't strictly necessary

Raptor F22 & F22 Raptor i reckon a eurofighter would & has (in battle simulation) opened a can off kick arse on a raptor in a dogfight even though the typhoon is a gen 4.5 & the raptor a gen 5

Why such a large difference on seized calipers?

What did the gearbox service involve?

Big difference was that the first time I supplied the caliper to an indy, he just did the fitting - so was about £60 plus £30 for the caliper

Second time round I didn't have time to do that and indy bought "OEM quality" caliper which was basically the same thing. Labour cost was higher and also included bleeding the brake system.

Gearbox service was the usual - remove sump pan, flush and replace oil, replace mechatronic sleeve, replace sump pan / filter, reset adaptations

Welcome to my world, the 335i are not alone re getting hit on repair costs we've seen plenty of 318i's 320i's with big bills too the 4 cylinder engines really surprise me at times re the amount of money they can consume and think about it for a second you may have from the outset bought this spec of car for its potential lower running costs yet in real life and I've seen it countless times before reality is something different.

But on the 335i's yep not the greatest advert for BMW in terms of what money have to be ploughed in to a car to keep it on the road and due to what I'd describe as some glaringly obvious weaknesses compare a 335i v M3, M3's to my eyes are more reliable cause a lot less stress overall (sure they have throttle body issues and other things) but in the real scheme of things looking forward if you take in to consideration the higher insurance/maintenance cost and perhaps slightly lower fuel consumption figures overall they are when you sit where I am surprisingly reliable compared with the say a 335i

What do you guys think about the money you're spending on your cars? So many people ask me why I bother and that I should just buy a new car instead

For me, I can't imagine driving anything else that's as much fun for what I can afford at the moment and there's no guarantees that a new car will be trouble free.

That said, I am getting to that point where I'm considering cutting my losses if anything else comes up soon

well...I bought the car in April with a FSH from BMW and I guess its just bad luck. I do worry that I have bought a pig in a poke but I'm a BMW fan and the 335i MSport touring was what I'd always wanted. Good fun to drive and I only paid £8k and there were plenty above £10k...maybe there was a message in the sale price...any way I'll see how it goes but what else could I get for £8k that looks so good, sounds good and drives nice..

With a full bmw sh didn't they offer goodwill on the turbos?

I'm sure you guys do the same as me... I wait for the weekend to buy parts as usually GSF and Eurocarparts have significant discounts. I accept that the parts aren't BMW but for the run of the mill parts it's fine IMO and not that expensive really...they didn't stock a diff tho'. But you can get the electric water pump etc and if you can get 40% discount it's worth considering.

Stealers are the worst. If there's a way out of paying out for literally anything they'll try it. I can imagine the response being "oh it's too high mileage it's not one of our warranty covered cars", "user error / beyond normal wear and tear ", "sold as seen" etc etc all excuses I've seen before.

They count on the fact that you're without a car and so will do whatever it takes to get the situation resolved with the least hassle I. E. Not use them

Also not just bmw but a lot of franchise outlets sell slightly cheaper cars next to their "used approved" ones but actually come with zero warranty and aren't covered by their usual T's and C's. Gotta be careful out there!

Yeah, although increasingly finding it difficult to source garages which let you bring your own parts. Debated that on a different thread a while back

Mine were replaced at 90k. Bmw paid for turbos as goodwill. Guess depends on dealer and relationship

Im fortunate that I know a guy well and just give him cash if I don't have time. Quite a lot of parts are pretty simple DIY jobs so I do some jobs myself YouTube is a great source of DIY advice.

mine just set me back about £120 getting the seized rear wiper sorted. It has been like that for a couple of years so my own fault for not sorting it while the original stuff could be rescued.

After having spent 2k on mine last month, thus far this month my 335i is running fine & has cost me nothing in parts or repairs

I do find its getting harder justifing to myself spending money on something that's constantly decreasing in value though. I suspect that if I was to add up all the receipts for money's spent over my 4 years of ownership it would be many thousands of pounds. I just don't want to upset myself by adding them all up

There's always something that needs or could do with being sorted. Mine could do with a wheel refurb, the drivers door needs repairing the missus over estimated her ability to get through a gap & a couple of weeks later the same door was hit by a shopping trolley & that was a couple of years ago! The bonnets covered in stone chips & needs a repaint & I would like to fit a charge pipe & some bovs.

Unfortunately I enjoy driving & when you do happen to come upon a nice bit of road & are able to have a bit of a special drive, the feeling my 335i gives me & the smile it puts upon my face is the reason I put up with it. I do find myself thinking more often nowadays that it must be nice to be one of those people that are indifferent to cars & happily drive around in something dull & cheap to run & have no interest in performance
