I just got a massive misfire code: "29D1, Combustion misfires, Cyl 5", and changed to a new coil for cylinder #5 (#1 is at front of the engine V6 of 2008 528i). No problem at beginning but rough in idle after driving 60 miles, and "2E1C, Firing, cylinder 5" appeared. It turned out that the harness to coil connection was loose due to the cracked clamp. Push in the harness fully and replace with a new clamp. Hope that might be the only cause of the misfires, as the car was free from misfires a about two years.

Do you also have a slow crank when starting the car cold? Based on slow crank and fuel smell symptoms, the fuel pressure regulator is leaky and needs to be replaced. Although the low fuel pressure might look good in logs, the leaky regulator doesn't supply full flow to the high pressure pump, which causes a micro fuel starvation issue and thus a misfire.
