What really matters when buying Chinese parts is the QC process (and balancing accuracy when speaking of turbos). They have the capability to produce a good product but if the QC process is lacking then it's a crap shoot.

Personally if it were my money and I was buying upgraded turbos I would request a balance sheet from the manufacture. If they can't comply with that then I'd probably move on unless they had a very very good reason why the couldn't.
FYI that someone on another N54 forum recently identified that their ebay/china turbos came with a fake balance sheet when they had their local turbo shop check verify if they were in spec.

I would expect that you will not run into this issue with PURE or any of the US vendors.

Pure is currently the only Turbo manufacturer we work with and we've had quite a few on the site in the last decade if that says anything for them.

Why do you have info on all these DAW failures? And what makes them junk btw? Tell me what you know about how turbos are built and where DAW went wrong? Or is this just another band wagonee regurgitating what someone else said? Not factual is it?

I know of a failure today of DAW stage 2 running ~24psi and healthy wgdc, will see if the owner posts about it or not. Funny you should call someone out about bandwagonning, though. You're on that one pretty hard.

The welds and the way that looks is pure shit. Im sure the turbos will be good quality for the rotational assembly.

So one that you think you know of? Good thing for a warranty then. And what I was referring too as others here have also was the terrible looking welds on the housing. Nothing else to say there is there. That cant be right? Who would let that out the door?

These are definitely PURE600s. Bought via reputable channels. Pure was contacted and they offered to replace without hesitation. Not really worth it just for some ugly welds nobody will see.

Pure had this to say:

Quote:
I'm sorry you are unhappy with the turbos. If you'd like to exchange for a different setup I have no problem swapping them out. Since the beginning our 2" inlet option on our STG2 DD's, STG2 HF, and Pure 600's have always been welded with zero issues. The inlets are press fitted and the welds are there as a backup only. Please let me know how you'd like to proceed. I have other units in stock we can ship once the original set arrives here.

One that I definitely know of, we'll see how the warranty plays out. I was also surprised to see those welds after all the praise I've heard about pure.

That said, welding to a cast surface like that will often have contamination to start with, and then welding that to some thin wall can also be tricky. The torch marks are just poor form.

Wrong! That looks like shit period. And these are not cheap turbos. You want to command the money you make damn sure QC are doing their job. Very simple.

*shrug* I don't want to comment too much on it as he's worried about getting warrantied if its public. I told him he should post in the DAW thread. From what I've heard, it didn't sound like an install issue.

If both turbos failed then something is up Lubrication issues can happen on install. Seen that before. Brand new and totally shot? More to that story.
