e90post's very own longtran came up with something cheaper....and does the same thing:

PMB......Poor Man's Brex

Wow, im sorry jlevi i've bought from you before but that is such a deep price for what seems like just leds. Double the price of brex's angel eyes and about seven times the amount of pmb's. Why are these more special then any of the other 2?

That's not double the price of the Brex angel eyes?

Cheaper, yes.

Same thing? I'm sorry, but I've seen all the pictures of Long's PMB's, and while I'll admit that for $30, you really can't lose... I will ALSO say, that they are noticeably dimmer than stock angel eyes, let alone the "ultrabright" solutions from Brex and other manufacturers.

Sorry, but that's the truth. Longtran's alternative is just that... a cheap solution that isn't the real thing.

Are the prices here just what comes with the territory of owning a BMW? I mean 200 for two LED's? Get real....

3 questions for you and this product -
1 - ... why is the price soo damn high
2 - ... what product are you using that is That expensive
3 - ... Why is the beam pattern so wide on that light source. You are simply wasting the light on with having such a spread light beam. if you want your product to sell make it about a 5 to 10 degree light spread so the light actually makes it into the halo rings and now everywhere else. Also Drop you price. Unless you are using some new technology that isnt out on the market yet then Get real. You can create 200+ Lumens for under $50 for both angel eyes. Stop wasting the time of people on e90 post. Longtran has the right idea - He is trying to help people and not rip them off - You are just ripping people off and i'm sure your product is not good. i'm done..

you guys also have to take into account the engineering that probaly went into making the product. recordlabels charge 15-25 bucks for albums when it costs them pennies to make. but there is alot of money and work behind all that.

however, it would help if you guys post some pics of your product.

I'm a little shocked and dismayed to see interest in a product like this on a BMW board. On the Civic & VW boards, I can understand it, but how does this junk pass muster with (theoretically) more knowledgeable BMW owners?

OMG Kevin, have you not seen e46's driving around looking like glowing racoon eyes? Even the PMB or Brex is not enough for some people! They want it the brighest possible! If someone installed HID's in the halos, it would sell like you wouldn't believe.

I'm happy with the Brex kit, I don't want them so damn bright like I have seen on the E46's, kinda ricey IMO.

I think its ricey to go after the "whos the brightest" contest. I personally would like mine to just be a white color rather than a hue of yellow.

Exactly.

SO much of this aftermarket garbage is of inferior quality, puts out LESS light than stock (despite "cool" looks in some people's not-so-humble opinion) and attracts attention to your car that may or may not be desirable. Like the kid I saw on Cops last weekend - got pulled over for bluish-green license plate lights (wow, cool!!) and when the kid rolls down his window, the cop gets a whiff of dizzy broccoli wafting out of the car, and the kid was instantly busted with a sizable amount of the sticky greenery in his car.. enough to send him to jail rather than skate with a ticket. All this for cool-colored lights? Not really worth it, eh?

What do you mean by "the real thing"? Can you elaborate what's real & what's fake?

IMO, Longtran's PMB is as real as any product out there that cost so much & yet it provides the same outcome.

Well if you read all the little bits that you cut out of my original post, you'd know what I meant.

Explain to me how Longtran's PMB's are different from the Brex's or any others for that matter?

Brighter? A different hue of white? Take the same picture with two different cameras and I'll show you a brighter halo...photos mean very little unless you're the one taking them. Put a light meter in the frame and then take the photo. Then, I'll buy the Brex's.

Think of this, it costs McDonald's $0.02 to pour your large Coke - yet they charge you $1.29. Why, because they can. Until someone can clearly demonstrate what exactly the Brex's or any other competitor's halo enhancement product does over Longtrans, it boils down to economics of scale. I'm sticking with my PMB's.

I hope not to be participating in a whos is better than whos kind of debate.

Without going into too many details, I can tell you that the Brex kit is a LED kit and PMB is not. As for results, it's up to the buyer to decide if the difference is worth it or not.

Lets not get into a "Brex is better" or "PMB is better" kind of discussion. For some, having the Brex is desireable, for others, thanks to Long, the PMB is a better option. That's all these all are...options. For people with Brex that say PMB is crap, that's just plain ignorant, just the same as someone who has PMB talking low about Brex.

Danny

A better question, seeing as how you all are the ones putting down JLevi's product, would be:

How are they NOT the least bit different?

When you can answer that, then you can come in here and bitch all you want about people overcharging. Until then, show some goddamn consideration and respect towards long-time contributing community members like Jon and Matt, who are doing YOU the favor of developing products for YOU to choose from. kthx.

I don't own a Brex or PMB so you know where I'm coming from. I take offense when someone says that PMB is not "the real thing. To me, both Brex & PMB are aftermarket options for E90s owner. But when someone says one is real & the other is not, then they are as disrespectful.
