Here's a little more detail on what parts I just got from Europe. Everything came from Schmiedmann - if you need help with this type of project, contact Dennis there and he will take excellent care of you. We spent weeks going back and forth on every last detail and now I think I have everything I need to get started on this epic project.
First, all the old gray headliner and pillar junk is going away: To be replaced by a proper black headliner, pillars, and accessories for a true M-sport look: Then we have the 6-speed manual from a very low mileage 330d: Some European LED tail lamps (they look similar when off, but when the turn signals illuminate, they light up amber instead of red). I know this is ridiculous and a small detail but my builds are all about details and not leaving anything to chance, and I like amber turn signals better. Pedal box and proper dash underpanel: A nice split/sliding center arm rest: The high performance Sachs clutch: A brand new BMW driveshaft with new U-joint, CSB, and two new giubos. Didn't want to take a chance on safety with an old/worn/unknown DS so instead of shipping one over and then spending hundreds on a rebuild and hundreds more to ship it back and forth, a new one was about the same price with the added bonus of having a brand new BMW center support bearing and two new giubos - overall a very good value actually. Schmiedmann also hooked me up with all the shifter parts (I opted for new ones), a fairly worn knob (I'll get a new one), boot, etc plus I opted for a brand new clutch slave and master cylinder, lines, and hoses to avoid complications from unknown or worn parts. I want the driveline feeling as new and tight as possible. Finally, for the moment, here's all the parts together. Not included in the shipment from Schmiedmann are other parts I have bought and are waiting on installation which are M-sport front grilles and fog lights, a custom built brand new 2.35 ratio Wavetrac limited slip differential, and some various odds and ends. Next weekend, Dec 7/8, we'll be gutting out the 335d donor so if anyone wants to come and hang out and/or help, PM me for address.

This is epic! Looks like you’ve got plenty to keep you busy for a while. If I were closer and didn’t have an infant I would be there turning a wrench for sure.

Hey man,
Jumping over from the NABDOG thread. https://www.sachsperformance.com/en/...h-3000951952-s That's the sachs performance clutch that I'm thinking I'm going with for my swap, when I have the funds to do such. Really like the build, do you plan on keeping adaptive cruise functional? Let me know what you think of the wavetrac. I'm contemplating either it, or making sure I get an early bolted differential and using one of the cheaper metal plate LSD kits. Still requires a bit of machining, but definitely saves initial cost. Mind posting some closer pictures of your pedal assembly? I have the pedals out of a manual 325i, some of the P/N's were different but I got a good price so I grabbed them. Have you picked up a manual gas pedal as well? no kick down switch at the bottom of the travel If you were about 10 hours closer I'd make an attempt to come down and wrench, have fun! What pics do you want of the pedal assembly? Happy to grab whatever you need. I don't need a manual gas pedal but if it's cheap I'll pick one up. I never did the swap on the E39 M5 touring I built and it was fine with the stock pedal.

No, different engine. There's no M57 powered wagon of any kind here in the USA and no manual M57 at all here in the USA.

If you'd be closer, I would for sure give you a hand, maybe I should plan a roadtrip w. Wonger.
Nothing beats learning from somebody else's build...

Are you planning on fabricating a custom crossmember for the transmission? The xdrive floor pan is different than the RWD one and the crossmembers are different. Or are you planning on cutting out the 335d floor pan and pasting it into the wagon?
Also, this is awesome, but was anyone else secretly hoping that he would put a DCT behind the diesel? I mean the thread title does say "6-speed manual build thread", but I was hoping he would have a change of heart. |

DCT won't work. My wife won't let me sell the E46 M3 touring I built unless I replace it with something she can row gears in. So it has to be a traditional manual.

Wow I guess I've been away from the forums too long, didn't even realize you sold your E39. This looks like it'll be a great build!

For the gas pedal, you might be able to just remove the internal kickdown switch if it's anything like the E39/E46 pedals. Otherwise they should be identical to the manual versions. |

Also, he sold that e39 touring for an absolutely amazing price. I'm surprised you weren't aware. It was huge on BaT.
