Boring update, I have been traveling and trying to get my m3 fixed so I haven't done much on the car. We have most of the wood fixed and stained. I only took one pic, but you get the idea.

We also recovered some of the trim panels.

We also cleaned the window regulators and made some adjustments. Apparently the windows were missing some parts so we ordered some stupid expensive springs from Germany.... Seriously this thing is killing me.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We also ordered a new headliner and removed the old one. The headliner in the car was actually in pretty good shape except someone cut a square out of it.....no clue..

I hope to have some more meaningful updates soon.

I gave the visors a good cleaning last night. I am impressed with P&S xpress interior cleaner.

As you can see in the video, it took very little effort.

My dad also made a speaker mount for the dash.

Not a major system but we plan on driving this car and we need some music. We will likely get a vintage look radio with bluetooth or a modified vintage radio.

Small update, not to leave well enough alone we weren't 100% happy with the trim. So my dad stripped the veneer and re-stained.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I think they are good now.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Who am I kidding, I'm sure we will do them again.....

Also, the headliner material showed up so we will work on that this weekend I'm sure.

A few more pics of the e9 wood after the final coat of poly. I think they are done.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Quick test fit to make sure the main dash piece doesn't interfere with the speakers.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Then started gluing the headliner in.

More updates soon.

Wow, I thought this thread was deleted for some reason. I guess it was just moved from OT.

If you are familar with the Hack Mechanic Rob Siegel, he has written several books about vintage Bmws, he has a great quote about E9 rust. "E9's will rust if you even think a moist thought near them. " Mine is pretty solid from what I have seen and I don't plan on doing a lot of digging. The goal is to get it driving and enjoy it, some day it will get the full works.

I haven't been up to much, I have all the door cards at my house that I need to clean up. I need to work on those tonight. Other than that my dad is drilling away at the wood trim. I think the gauge bezel is finally done, the 5th time is the charm.

The plan is to have the interior done before the first of the year and then tackle the body work. We are waiting for the dash to come back, which should be around Thanksgiving. I hope to drive it to the Vintage in May which means we need most of April for shakedown drives.

My garage was very German last night. I cleaned the E9 door panels in my garage full of BMW's and BMW memorabilia, while hanging with my dog Hofmeister and drinking a Hofbrau. Anyway... pics.

Up next was replacement of these small strips on the door.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

My dad stopped by the interior shop down the street. The owner is becoming a good friend and pulled some material off the roll, ran it through the sewing machine and gave it to my dad.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

It worked out great.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And of course the often over looked vapor seal. The backs of the door card were pretty moldy and water had gotten in at some point, which is typical of anything of this vintage.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

After that was the marriage of the wood and trim.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And a little test of how it will look with the door card. Needless to say, I am stoked.

Interesting that they have a leather piece on the ends of the doors. Anyone know why?

My guess is either wind noise, or to fill the gap between the panels. Or both. This thing is pretty luxurious now days, it must have been insane in 71.

This is absolutely incredible! Bravo to you and your dad on the craftiness and the awesome work so far. The icing on the cake is that you get to do this with your father. Nothing better than that!
