Bluetooth Phones
Just a quick note: I just bought a Motorola Razr V3 and it is fully functional with my car. But, not until the latest software update was made by my dealer today. Apparently some cars are getting through without this update and you will NOT be able to pair your phone. So if you have such a problem don't just assume it's a phone problem, your car may not have the latest software updates. These are coming through apparently with some regularity.
Happy Bimmering!! |

Thanks for the update CaptJack. In an earlier post on a different thread, you had mentioned that the radio display (at least for non I-Drive cars) interacts with your bluetooth phone.
1) Once you pair your phone, can you scroll through your numbers using the radio display and buttons on your steering wheel? 2) When you get an incoming call, does the radio display show caller ID if available? 3) How else does the radio display interact with the phone? Thanks. |

Phone interface

Check this out: This afternoon I was walking out of a store to my parked car. When I opened the door my phone automatically switched to the car stereo system without me doing or touching ANYTHING! My cell phone went silent and I was communicating through the cars system. All this with the car turned off and my key in my hand. The radio face lit up and all phone features were available. Pretty cool. |

I had a similar issue trying to get my Jabra Bluetooth headset to pair with my AudioVox SMT5600 SmartPhone. I found out on my phone that there is a special menu i have to access to get the phone to initiate the pairing with a BT device. You will need to find that menu on your phone, but its probably in your user's manual.
Once you initiate the BT search and connect, it will find the BMW speakerphone device. This is normally turned off on all phones by default (searching for new devices, that is). |

This kind of picture is definitely useful.
Does anyone know if BMW can add other bluetooth phones later? In otherwords, say I purchased the bluetooth option now, is it possible that at some later date that this system would be compatible with additional phones (my phone is ablackberry and it isn't currently supported). Would this involve a sw update? |

I guess it depends on the reason that its not supported now. The way phones are supported or not is not individually but if they support what's called a Bluetooth "profile".
There are a couple of Bluetooth profiles that can be used with handsfree sets and cars, one more capable than the other. Their exact names I'm not sure of right this second so I won't say what I think they are anyway. So let's say new phones come out in the future with proper support for these profiles, then they SHOULD work in the BMW. If there is a bug in the implementation of either the car or the phone you have and that's why its not supported now; AND the company responsible decides to fix it, then its feasible your phone could work in the future as well. That said, I still don't know the reason why the Treos and Blackberries aren't supported right now. I think that's really ironic because the people with those phones are the ones MOST likely to be talking most, especially on the go. Oh well. |

From my understanding, you get a base plate that costs $130. From there you have to get the snap-in adapter for the specific phone you have ranging from $100-$145. This system allows you to charge your phone while utilizing the e90s dorsal fin to get better reception. Currently, these are the available snap-in adapters for BMW (don't know if they will carry over to the e90):
-Motorolla V710 -Nokia 6310, 6310i -Siemens S55 -Sony Ericsson T39 -Sony Ericsson T68i -Sony Ericsson T610, T616, T630, T637 -Motorola V505, V551, V525, V600, V620, V635 |
