Since the TCU is useless just program it out of the Kombi module
and remove it entirely .

These two lines in the Kombi (Instrument module) will turn the error off.

TCM_ALIVE_MONITOR -> nicht_aktiv
TCM_ID_MONITOR -> nicht_aktiv

It was my understand the ulf or mulf module can take over all the functions of the
TCU but without SOS and since SOS is no longer supported in the US no reason
to have a TCU.

I am retired and used to work in Tech but still like to do Tech stuff.
So this is a diversion from some of the madness.
Although it's hard to talk to people that won't try to understand things
or do the work needed to solve there problems.

Thanks, ctuna.

I finally had a chance to check the coding of Kombi, and unfortunately both these lines were already nicht_activ. That makes sense, as the car was never equipped with a TCU as far as I can tell.

So I appreciate any other ideas.

I am thinking it's not MOST-related as my MCUF seems to be working, and I get a red light at the diagnostic port under the dash by the driver.

Shout I be scanning for any errors (and how, which software tool)?

Might my MCUF need coding or a software update? I bought it from eBay used, so have no idea of its age or history.

TCU must be removed from the Car to get rid of the SOS on
start up . Or totaly unplugged. There are two SOS warnings
The big one and the small one . The big one is only active on
start up and is caused by the TCU still being plugged in .

WTF is a an MCUF never heard that term before.

Sounds like i have the big SOS warning - pic attached - as it appears on start-up. But the car has never had a TCU, so its removal doesn't seem like it could be the cause. Is there anything else that could explain this?

Re. MCUF - ha, sorry, I meant MULF, not sure how I twisted that around!

Revived again!

I have a 2006 330xi that has started doing some things.

1. Head unit (not the nav one) now starts in AUX when it used to start in radio. Can select radio and it works.
2. SOS warning on the dash.
3. Bluetooth is dead. It is factory.

I have pulled apart the trunk. The MOST at the amp flashes. There is a solid yellow light on the front. The MOST on the module next to where SAT would be (isn’t) flashes. The terminator MOST flashes. There is a dead MOST cable wrapped in some sort of Velcro-foam that is on top of the amp and next to the radio module thing in the trunk. No light. Maybe for optional CD changer or used with upscale radio??

Looking for ideas. I have an INPA cable and INPA. I used it on an E46. Do I need to download something different to use on an E90? Will it tell me anything?

Where is the BT module located? In the big silver box in the trunk??

K can cable works on an 06 up until something like the 2/07 build I have an
06 with a k can cable myself.

If you want to run Inpa run Functional jobs F3 F4.
Inpa should be set up to the correct com port and latency
1 if I remember correctly .

This will tell you which modules that can be communicated with.
The foamed cable is likely for the Sat module.
There is another one next to the Amplifier in the Trunk for the CD
changer. These connectors are not an active part of the Most Loop
till they are added to the Most Hub.

For diagnostics long term get a copy of Ista d. But you still need to use NCSexpert or Winkfp in the INpa suite for programming.
See coding subforum .

Also if any work was done underneath the steering wheel the Most Test
Point could be disconnected causing a most bus failure. .

I would say the TCU is bad but that shouldn't cause the radio to default to aux.
Check battery and alternator voltages first.

Before you do anything make sure your battery volatge and your alternator
voltage is good.

TCU's are cheap on EBAY or you could get something like a mr12volt.com
apapter that gives usb sd card and music streaming plus telephone but it's
not the same menu as stock .
Mr12Volt also requires the CD changer be enabled and the device added to the most loop.
The you have to program the Radio and Instrument panel to not scan for the TCU.

I have the same issues in a 06 330xi in the US. No sat. I have chased the blinking MOST lights. Amp is good with solid yellow front light. Flashing light at MULF. Flashing light at termination under dash. The unit at the MULF location says BMW EVEREST E60 US. Do I need to look with INPA or INSTA to se codes or such? No BT and the SOS warning is on.
