Possible Issue with Y-Cable?
I have a 2011 E92 without iDrive. I have the new iPhone 5s and the lightening adapter. I can connect my phone via Bluetooth (and make voice calls), but when I use the Y-cable to playback music I get inconsistent issues. Forwarding to the next song using the steering wheel controls sometime repeats the song. Also, I noticed a slight lag on the radio displaying the title of the song (going from one song to another). On the way home tonight, all it would display is "loading".
Not sure it's the cable of adapter? |

Bottom line, it seems crazy, but you've only got $20 to lose trying a new cable, and it's probably the most likely culprit.

Ok so im wondering is BMW not even going to bother releasing the Y cable for the iPhone 5 that supports video. I keep getting mixed responses from BMW parts employees. I really want to use my iphone 5 with full plugin support tired of the slow iphone 4 im using now.

You right that combox is needed which i have, Yes Y cable is a thing read this stickys first page. The Normal White cable cant run video its not designed to. You can run audio over normal cable just fine bmw apps and what not have no issues. When you want to run video you need apples av adapter or in the bmw world the y cable.

That's the opposite of what's typically true. Have you tried plugging in with your normal USB cable?
To be clearer: the BMW y cable you can get for $20 on Amazon or $1-200 from BMW definitely cannot transport video, period. |

The Y cable from BMW is designed to transport video, the only ones on amazon are the pre lci (TCU) 6fl cable. The TCU was never designed for video handling so that's why that cable doesn't send video. As far as the white cable, yea white cable works for anything non plugin featured. If you retrofitted 6NR like myself and bypassed the need for the cradle then your only way to use plugin is with the 6NR cable from BMW only problem is its Iphone 4 connector and not the 5. The beginning of the thread talks about what everything supports.

6FL: MULF-based USB. Y cable required for iProducts, or else you can use a thumb drive formatted FAT32. No video. Doesn't require iDrive. 6NR: Combox based. No Y cable required at all, uses a USB-only solution. video, bmw apps, etc etc. What setup are you talking about that supports video over a Y cable? As far as I'm aware, the TCU has nothing at all to do with USB.

The 2011 E92 I drove the other Day played and listed my iPhone and had Bluetooth audio.
My 2011 E90 doesn't list Bluetooth audio or playback my iPhone it says device not supported. Can I buy the CD/head unit that does support it via USB from the dealer?

I had an issue also with my radio not working correctly. You could see the radio was on, but no sound (along with the issues with the 5s on my previous post). You could see the BT link to the phone, but when you placed or received a call you could hear. I took it to the dealer and they applied some software fix and my radio and 5s have been working fine. I have a 2011 328i E92.

iOS 7 and iDrive
I know that this sticky said iOS6, but I figured I'd post this here as well and the minor threads....
I can confirm that the lightening-to-30pin adapter sold by Apple for $39.99 allows audio and the iPOD information (album, artist, tract, etc.) to be transmitted from my iPhone 5S with iOS 7.0.2 through the Y-cable to my iDrive for my 2006 E93. Mine is pre-Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). |

I am finding two different 30 pin to Lightning adapters. One of them has a 3.5 mm aux male on it, and one does not. Do I need the one with the aux male pin? I am hooking up a new iPhone 5c to my 2008 which uses the y cable.

Anyway, you just need this or this and your Y cable. I'd advise the second for flexibility.
