Here's my KW v1 on my E91 xi. The KW had instructions that specified the adjuster goes on top. The coil fits into the rubber in the control arm, and the top of the adjuster goes in the hole where the 'tin cap' was.

Don't you feel a big gap between the spring perch and the car chassis?
I've tried to do this on my V1's but is doesn't feel safe becase of this gap. I've not removed the top cup yet. If I remove it, the gap will be obviously bigger. |

You need to remove the cup!! It has a boss that goes into a hole in the chassis. The top perch has a similar boss that engages the chassis. Just follow the video and instructions in the kit.

Not really. Here are the installation instructions from KW's website. Check out pages 10 and 11.

My KW V1s were originally installed 11 years ago by VAC Motorsports. 50,000 miles later and they’re worn out so I’ll be having them redone / replaced under lifetime warranty. So now I’m uninstalling them to install the new ones myself, and “lo and behold” VAC had installed the original ones upside down! Why? Because on my 2008 335xi E90 the chassis hole for the spring perch is TOO SMALL for the KW purple/black spring perch. But it will kind of sloppily fit upside down in the lower control arm. So, yes, upside down for some cars. But that sloppiness is bugging me.
