if my car runs great on 3.01 stage 1 sport, is there any reason to change to 4.01?

Yes, firmware/software have been updated for better timing & other tuning variables. v402 is the new officially released map anyhow so it's not like it's in the Beta Stage anymore

There is nothing preventing you from downloading the new v4.01 maps and trying them out. They won't overwrite your v3.01 maps on the AccessPORT, so you can have them both on there and switch back and forth to see which you prefer.

Coming from v3.01 with little or no issues, what should I try first, v4.01 or v4.02?

I have all stock hardware, and am only interested in using stage 1 sport or aggressive maps on Shell VP.

Thanks!

v402 -- v401 had boost oscillations for some people, v402 corrected those problems & is now the approved map

Since he is completely stock, he would be on the STG1 non plus map... I believe those are 401 only.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought 4.01 was for 'stock' cars. You can't go to 4.02 unless you have at least DPs. No?

On the site I still see 4.01s listed for Stage 1 (not +FMIC)

vXXX is just a firmware version. So v2 was old, v301 is now outdated + v402 is the current version. The non-FMIC maps are still only v401

Right so to the poster you were commenting to they need to install 4.01 not 4.02. Just making sure he understood.

You don't really have a choice. There is only one map version for a given set of modifications. The Stage1 and Stage2 maps (no intercooler upgrades) are all v4.01. The Stage1+FMIC and Stage2+FMIC maps are all v4.02. Choose the appropriate map for your modifications.

Thanks!

Understanding the differences in E85 is there a way to make an OTS E85 map that would be safe at a certain mix (say 50/50) and assuming that the E85 is of the lowest percentage that would be seen. Any thoughts on an OTS Meth map?

All kinds of posts today about this in both Cobb threads. There are no plans due to the fluctuation in e85 out there.

If you have v301 and no problems then v401 is like a virtual intake and exhaust performance upgrade for free... I switched while in beta and had no issues whatsoever.

Agreed and if you tune for the worse case how much of of a difference are we talking? I've heard the Stage2+ are pretty conservative that you can extract quite of bit with ATR or ProTune so the same approach could be done it this case. OTS's are never perfect but they are really nice and fairly close.

I was told 25-40sh whp gains with a ProTune over OTS Stage 2+FMIC.

legit gains from getting a ProTune I'm getting 2 maps made soon (max power pump gas & an E85 map), I recommend that you mod your car to the point where you're done making performance mods AND THEN get the ProTune done.

No point in getting a custom tune made & then adding mods 2-3 months down the road

Get ATR and add timings in the highest load timing table , start with 1 degree across the board with the 50/50 mix . Change scaler value for the mix. Log and see how corrections look like. The are several thread on ATR. Just search.

a7med606,

You can update maps by visiting the BMW AccessPORT Off-The-Shelf Map Database. Your ECU code is IJE0S, so click on that blue button to find the maps appropriate for your ECU. Then click on each map you want to download and try for your car that are compatible with the modifications you've made to your vehicle.

You do not need to uninstall the AccessPORT from your car. Simply follow this Map Download and Transfer Step-By-Step Tutorial to get the new maps transferred from your computer to your AccessPORT. Then go to your car, plug the AccessPORT in, navigate to Tune > Change Map, select the map you want to install and follow the on-screen instructions.

The maps that are currently on your AccessPORT will remain there, so you can always revert to an older version of a map if you wish, though there is typically no need as newer map revisions address previous issues or improve performance in some way.

There's also an AccessPORT Manager Web Tutorial you can view if you want more info on transferring maps and datalogs between your AccessPORT and computer.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

- Gary

+1 everything in the COBB tuning post, but is the COBB tune even installed on your car?? Little confused cause it sounds like you bought your AP used + it's possible that if you haven't installed & confirmed you also have IJE0S, that you might have a different DME logic

+100000000

I just updated from stage 2+fmic v301 to v402 and all I can is thank the good tuning lord! The v301 flash worked fine for me for the first month I was FBO, but as of last week my car started breaking up during 3rd and 4th gear pulls from 3,750RPM to redline.

I recently changed my plugs and had my intake valves cleaned, so I was going to check my coil packs this weekend. Now there is no need, it seems as if whatever adjustments were made with the v402 flash fixed my problems!

Thanks Cobb and Happy Friday y'all!
