It's a preventative service, in my case it helped and smoothed out my gear changes. I couldn't say it would be a fix for you, but at 100,000kms I would certainly look into it.
If a differential slip error is coming up, is there anything out of ordinary you've heard? Loud diff, grinding diff or felt any slippage? For those wanting the DIY: [u2b]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_n2Yfl-zBzg[/u2b] I used a large 100ml syringe to extract the old fluid, much more user friendly. Used Castrol castrol syntrax longlife 75w-90 which is the factory fluid. Last edited by Grohouse; 09-02-2016 at 09:03 AM.. |

i had no symptoms of the above. funny enough everytime that error pops up my car is cruising at fairly low speeds 20kmh-50kmh. No jerky movement felt. I've been trying to replicate that error going from Sport M5 to M4 but no cigar.
i'm gonna chalk that last error up to tranny reprogramming itself after they clear the codes, maybe that it's taking sometime to adapt again... |

update; hopefully it benefits people with the same problem:
So, with a working cable in hand, i've managed to dig deeper and find out exactly what the whole deal is with this transmission fault. i'm almost convinced it's an issue to do with software rather than hardware... INPA shows error in the EGS module code 4F8D, quick google redirects to a post on e90: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1036295 I have always been very skeptical of all these finicky process driven solutions, but I understood the logic behind what the method was trying to achieve, it was obvious that the aim was to change the adaptive values stored in the transmission ecu through rote repetition. But what was most valuable from that thread was figuring out how to successfully recreate the problem over and over again. I manage to have the transmission fault pop up at command knowing what driving patterns were bound to give me the error. From the thread, it was the 'D' downshift pattern (or engine braking with no interference from using my brakes) from gear 5-4-3 to stationery. So I tested that on a quiet street and sure enough, I had the fault come up each and every time it slowed to a crawl using engine brakes. The fix? I would've assumed the workshop would've done this during service as I was told it was during the handover but I didn't wanna leave it up to chance and did it with INPA again anyway. I reset the adaptive values in the transmission menu and verified the mappings were all showing 0. Drove my car out and attempted to recreate the transmission fault again, voila, this time car was still slightly jerky but no error came up. Did this for another 10 or so times and I'm now fairly confident the car has learnt the proper downshift and slip differentials in the ECU are in tune. So the problem seems to have been solved, for now anyway. If you don't see any further updates from me on this thread, then the above could be a helpful and inexpensive fix if your mechanics are unsure why your transmission is giving you errors and are suggesting a rebuild to make it go away. |

I have a 2011 335is DCT with 67,000 miles. Yellow cog light came on and went into limp mode. Dealer drove it three days in a row and could not duplicate the behavior. Error code 0x005A53 DKG:Gearbox overheatinghase red. Fluid sample was withdrawn and found metal filings. Recommendation: DCT replacement for $10,000. The car was never tracked, never driven in stop-go traffic, mostly highway miles. No one knows what caused this DCT to fail.

Over heating generally occurs when the car is being driven hard or might simply be low on fluid.

2007 e90 320d 167k km 4f8d warning automatic transmission on my car. but but there is no gear shift gap or slippage in the car. and this way I have received this warning 4 or 5 times in the last 1 year. the mechanic says the transmission needs to be renewed, but it didn't seem convincing to me. Because as I said, there is no problem in shifting any gear in my car. Anyone know about the software update? or is there someone to help in general .. Thanks...

Only get it after drifting around in the snow so I assume it’s a heat thing. Seems to throw me in second gear to start off with the error. Restarting the car clears it and it doesn’t come back until an hour of drifting around or so. Car still shifts smooth and the diff is fresh so I know that wouldn’t cause any problems.
