well done Pana, the internet offers us the ability to go anywhere in the world you can research just about anything, you can even sound like you know what you are talking about by researching just about any subject, so please people when you make a comment about a particular subject make sure you do your research first, we here in the states some times forget that outside of the United States they are other countries where folks live very well and not every one desires a BMW we are just a hand full of enthusiast of that brand.

Next time I go home I'll take some pictures of the BMW, Mercedez and even Ferrari dealers we have in Guatemala. There is rich people everywere. Of course you'll see a lot of 320's 325's not 335's. Even the 120 coupe has been in there for years now.

I live in Ecuador, in 2007 there were sold 345 new BMW in 2008 just 55 because of new taxes; 3 weeks ago we went with the BMW club to a racing place named YAGUARCOCHA with 38 BMW: M3, ALPINA, SCHINTZER,... versions: E21; E30; E36; E46 and of course just 2 E92. Last week to the BMW Oktoberfest we were 42 vehicles just of Quito and friend and members of the club.

I wouldnt be so sure about that, I just came back from Guatemala, and saw nice bimmers there, I even saw a beautiful 911 turbo porsche, They have also a ton of Mercedes, Land Rovers, etc. The family that we stay with, had a 5 series, nice car.

Im in Guadalajara right now, and holly crap the number of bimmers out here. When i arrived i was shocked, and not just 325is, but 335is, x6's, everything. Man their lucky they dont need the ugly orange corner lights like out in the us. They are so beautiful without them. Oh and just the other day......My heart was basically complete....Got to drive a GT3. Oh man lol that was fun.

I spent a month in Montevideo/Buenos Aires and saw quite a few BMWs, but I saw many other nice cars as well. They are definitely present in South America. In neither city did I see as many as I do in my home town or in West Hollywood where I lived for about 1.5 years.

I lived in a huge city in mainland PRC (Shenzhen) for nearly a year and saw almost no BMWs, but Audis were a dime a dozen, they far out numbered Benz and BMW, and were about equal in number to Buicks. Sometimes, what "nice car" one sees in a given locale is just a cultural factor as well as having much to do with the effectiveness of the manufacturer's marketing and willingness to tailor the vehicle to suit the locale's consumers.

Finally, at the risk of sounding pedantic, Mexico, Panama and Guatemala are not in South America, although Panama borders it and folks there may have some insight (perhaps even first hand) into what cars are prevalent in Columbia, which at least is in South America. All the same, Medellin being the closest major South American city to Panama, one's perception may be skewed if there remain there vast amounts of drug money.

I agree you do not see as many bimmers here in Mexico as in the US let say Miami,or L.A, but you also do not se many bimmers in Laredo or Dallas

In Miami and L.A you see them everywhere. I studied in Miami or eight years and I know what I am talking about. Also you can see many many Porsches, Mercedes, Audis, Aston Martin, Maseratti etc as if they were given away.

One more point to consider is in the US most people leither lease or credit (credit rates from 1.99% special rate up to 6% or 8%, correct me if I am wrong) their cars and you can lease a luxury car for about 399 to 599 a month, and in Mexico, most people who buy a luxury car either by them cash or buy them credit (credit rates 14% to 16%, very expensive) in that case you end up paying from $800 to $1,000 depending on the downpayment and the years the credit is for.

Here in Mexico you have to go to the wealthy areas and surrounding otherwise you will not see them as often as you would want to. We have to consider that the level of insecurity, robberies, carjacking and kidnapping is around the corner, so that is why many people avoid having an expensive car and rather move themselves in affordable cars like Hondas, VW'w, Toyotas, Chevrolet and Dodge.

Hello, I'm from Brazil, but now I'm living in USA. I guess the best way to see the volumes of BMW is checking for the number of dealers in each country or region. Of course there are BMWs in Brazil, but it can not be compared to what you can see in USA. BMW are more accessible (cheapper) than in Brazil, because the taxes there are ridiculous high for imported cars. Right or wrong, Brazil government try to improove local production by increasing taxes on imported goods.

It takes a K-12 education to know that distribution of wealth (or lack thereof) is a common problem in Latin America and that all these countries have extremely wealthy people.

First off, last I checked Panama is in North America, not South America, so the number of BMW's sold there is irrelevant to the topic of this thread.

Second off, Lets actually look at some facts instead of trying to gauge based on peoples individual experience which will vary greatly based on the economic conditions of the area in which they live.

Fact: 2009 North American BMW Group revenue was ~11mil Euro.
Fact: 2009 BMW Group Revenue for "Other Markets" (Including South America, and Africa) was only ~1.9mil

So yes, there aren't very many BMW's in South America compared to North America.

Lastly, the number of subsidiaries that BMW has can be used as a rough estimate of the number of cars sold in each region. In North America, there are 4 Research and Development locations, 5 Sales, and 1 Production. In South America there are just two Sales.
