Yes it is wired through the stereo and the volume is fine, you can adjust it by using the knob on the unit if needs be. I have no rattles as I put in some foam rubber behind the unit to raise it up a little and damp any contact with the ashtray. I also have the steering wheel control fitted although this is fairly limited in it's function.

And HotCoupe is spot on about our Goverment. Fuel prices , road tax , and i heard yesterday on the radio it was something like £100 + for a return trip from Bristol to London on what i thought was PUBLIC TRANSPORT!!!!!

And what about this POINTLESS HOME INFORMATION PACK ............

Right back to my Shiraz i think .
If you look at BMW websites in the US, they give 4 years warranty and 'free servicing.' To me, there is no such thing as a free lunch so the 'free servicing' must be built into the price. As I understand it this is what the Yanks 'demand' and as the BMW US market pro rata is so much greater than the UK's, BMW comply with demand. Higher end audio systems are also standard, but then they are on all American made cars.

Fine they have varying state taxes, but ultimately we do pay more.

Your right about the home info. pack as well.

Alan,

The colour screen unit seems to have a better build quility hence why I suggested it. TBH I think the CK3100 is pretty cheap feel to it. The cable comes out the bottom but you could cut out the rear by taking it apart and rerouting the cable (it'd look better on the metal trim insert then). As mine has the cable out the bottom and looks crap as there is a cable going along the left hand side into the dash. The dash mount isn't hard as the metal trim prises away quite easily and fits back quite well. Mine has been on and off 4 times (i've had two kits one Parrot and one cheap and cheerful!) No rattles.

The bit that rattles is the headling where the mic is - the headling clamps are worn out from refitting kits.

In answer to the volume from the speakers - I think it's quite adequate it can distort if you put it too loud (usually when i'm going at a quick pace!)

Thanks for those pointers. I think miopyk's pictures have sealed it for me. No wires showing from the unit at all. I can't change it now because the company installing it already sent me the unit and I've had a look at it. It is a bit cheap looking so hiding it in the ashtray which I wouldn't otherwise use kills all the birds with one stone.
