Based on what Jarek told me about the OEM pump...anything above 17000 mbar, the OEM pump cant keep up and becomes erratic at providing a consistent rail pressure....thus he cant predict the pressure for the tune and it can get smokey or lean.... .....(heres me speculating) my bet is that 2.8 stops asking for more pressure just before it gets to 17000. Thus the tune is very efficient and clean... So a more efficient/consistent pump above that level wouldnt help you make any gains... because it never asks for more than 17000 mbar in the rail.... Also...I am running 2.5....and I just changed to the R90...and I feel no difference from OEM to R90.... I expect a huge difference when I get the stage 3.5 tune from JR (when the requested rail pressure is much higher) But I could be TOTALLY wrong on that...and would love for Jarek (or TDIwyse) to clear that up. You should be able to make more power on diesel alone with the R90 vice large amounts of meth.
I think the R90 is a good option for everyone looking to make the most power out of their 335d. Last edited by 335dsleeper; 06-03-2017 at 10:22 AM.. |

Kinda like the 11mm vs 10mm pumps on the rotary pump TDI cars? More fuel within the timing window, better combustion = more powersssss.

Only if the ecu is requesting fuel above the max flow value of the R70 pump will you see a gain by going to the R90. If you're not getting rail pressure drop now, you'll get zero gain just by putting on the R90 pump. Now once overall fuel flow is increased beyond the limit of the R70 in a tune update, then the R90 will provide the power gain by maintaining rail pressure.

No problem, I'm hoping to have 30% over injectors available soon, Exergy has finished fixtures and is working on the engineering of what orifices internally need modified. With piezo injectors, just making the holes in the tip bigger doesn't do much. I'm willing to bet with a modified set of injectors, R90 pump, and hybrids we could be seeing some crazy figures put down .

I know this HPFP thing has been touted as the "next upgrade", but in reality its usefulness is limited to a pretty small circle at the moment. For those with a JR stage 3/4, its pretty much required though. Anything below that, you will get no benefit at all. Last edited by OmahaDZL; 06-06-2017 at 11:06 AM.. |

Gotcha, thanks. I'm kinda backwards from most in that I really only want increased reliability and am not too concerned with (and, in fact, a bit disinterested in) tons of power.

I'm running a 2.8 tune and getting the dreaded reduced engine power (bunch of rail pressure codes). Shopping for a R90 pump right now.

Are you sure you need the R90? You might have another issue causing the rail codes. I believe JR tuned for the stock R70 high pressure pump.

Hmm...maybe its not the pump...maybe the rail pressure sensor? Might be an idea to contact Rob about his spare one to try it out. |

There are a few issues that can trigger rail sensor codes. Not to many R70 pumps have failed so, it could be something else. Logging rail pressure at WOT might help narrowing down the issue.

You also have the regulating valve at the rear of the rail and the hpfp solenoid on the back of the hpfp.
Unfortunately, without codes it's quite difficult. He mentioned he had rail codes. The codes might help identify the issue and the issue might or might not be the hpfp. |

You can pull the connector off the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) and the HPFP will default to max pressure all of the time. People do this when the FPR dies and they need to get home. |

Codes were 4560, 4570, 4610.
Fuel filters only have 6k on them (have a 2 micron downstream of the factory one). Can ran great for a few months. Started having issues on full throttle runs, going into reduced power mode. Eventually it started occurring under less and less throttle amounts. Can't go 1/2 throttle for over a second or it will occur now. I plan to go hybrids and a larger tune eventually so I figured that replacing the pump is money well spent. My android phone I used for gauges and logging died (battery swelled up) and I haven't replaced it yet so I haven't been able to log anything. Not sure if my Schwaben scan tool will do that or not? Got a pump coming from Whitbread and a tool in the mail, should get it put on this weekend. I'm also interested to see how my intake runners look after almost 10k miles of meth injection (hoping they are cleaned up)... |

I dont know if whitbreads pump comes with that extra 6 inches of hose...I suggest some heavy duty fuel line race hose....the one I used was too soft and it leaked everywhere... because I didnt tighten the hose clamp enough... Last edited by OmahaDZL; 09-14-2017 at 08:21 AM.. |
