There is no "mythical" limit at 100mph. 96+ is magistrates rather than fixed penalty, that's the only "limit" as such.

101 is 44% over the 70mph limit, same as 58 in a 40. In 2011 I only got 3 points for 62 in a 40 which was 55% over the limit!?!?!

Like I said in post 22, I got 2 weeks from a 4 week "nominal" ban for 104mph and I'm not gay or a celebrity BF (not that that matters) But I did pay £200 for a local lawyer to attend and speak for me, which helped a lot, not a fancy lawyer, just a regular one.

But you got a DD40, dangerous driving. So it was judged much more serious than plain speeding. There must have been aggravating circumstances, although 119 is pretty quick. Was it outside a school ?

DD40 is in the same penalty range as causing death, manslaughter or culpable homicide while driving a vehicle!

It must have murdered your insurance for years?

EDIT : was it in Scotland? those sheriffs are a bit nuts.

It was on an a road dual carriageway and might have involved a civic type r and and accord type r. You get the jist of it now

Insurance pretty much trebled!

My first car after the ban was an octavia vrs and was £1300 to insure 3rd party only.

Insurance now (4 1/2 years on is still double) after 5 years it will be off and back to sensible quotes

Thats why i drive a 320d now. Couldnt out pull a milk float and insurance is sensible(ish)

You must have been well clear of the Type Rs once you hit over 100. My old Integra Type R was very quick up to 80, but over that the acceleration really tailed off

More seriously though, the one thing that I'm always worried about is getting a big ticket/ban, so am very aware of keep a eye on my speed.

My insurance for my heavily modified 335i is perfectly manageable at £600/year, but that's with a clean license for the last 5 years, and 5 years + of NCB. I would imagine if I got given a driving ban for what ever reason the 335i would be un-insurable for me

Yes I always thought the consequences for going over a ton were much more severe as well. Still it's not worth the head aches. I'm very careful. Unfortunately that often means about 3 seconds of WOT before having to behave. May just have to get some track time.

Doughboy - it proves my point. maybe different areas different cirumstances. but was always sure over a 100 wasnt as light as you make it out to be

1200 fine for Jase, Fark sake that is hefty.

Guildline's read out to me was

on motorway
80-90mph is 3 points and £100 fine,
90-100 is 6 points and £xxx fine
100-110 is 6 points with a ban upto 28days.

It also depends on what circumstance you give, and how a ban would affect your working life.

You don't get points AND a ban, it's and either / or thing.

If you get a ban then there'e no points and vice versa.

6 points is considered equal to 28 day ban. I would rather have the ban.
