Just failed on me Saturday, had it towed to an Indy.

b. Failed on the interstate, pulled off immediately-red thermometer and limp mode.

c. 1350- 800parts rest labor...yes I know DIY is over half that

d. Replaced at very well regarded Indy(charges more than dealer) that is 1 block from my apartment. My complex doesn't allow work on cars and I don't have open time for DIYS like this this summer so premium paid.

e. No additional damage, had thermo replaced as well. Towed it home as soon as in the red.

f. Never tracked once.

I had a though on my way into work this morning (if this has been covered please excuse me). I read recently that this car has multiple thermostat or heat settings, 1 for sport, 1 for comfort and there were a couple more I believe.

My thought was this, which mode do you drive your car in mostly, this could be letter "g" on the list. For example I read that the thermostat setting for when you're in sport mode is lower, to help produce power, thus putting more strain on the thermostat (opening and closing more) and the possibly the water pump itself.

I'm curious if there is any correlation or not is all.

109,000 miles water pump failed light came on and went to instant limp mode.
Bought parts online for less than $400 (water pump and thermostat)
A buddy put it in for me in about 4 hrs all is good now.

manuals don't have "sport" mode.. I don't think it's relevant. I don't think the DME adjusts the thermostat for the transmission anyway. It does it based on engine load and RPM over time.

To be exact, the pump failed at 82k miles. Coolant was original 50.50 mix. Never had leaks. Never had to top off coolant. Original and only owner.

b. Shadow faults stored in DME for deviation in pump speed. Radiator fan screaming week before warning lights/limp mode. Pump was not complete failure but on it way out .
c. ~$350. I work for a shop so I get wholesale pricing and also installed myself.

I'm in the same boat! Just bought my 325i not long ago and I'm about to hit 150k. Previous owner had the pump fail at around 85k. I've got a leaky sensor I'm going to replace and I'm wondering if i should get another pump while I'm at it since I'll be flushing the system. Anybody know if the replacement pumps last longer?? Anybody had to replace their second pump yet? I've only seen 1 or 2 people say they're on their 3rd pump. Thinking about doing it for peace of mind

First owner replaced it at 85k miles. Pretty sure it at least made it to the dealer, no tow.
Dealer replaced, around 850 for parts and labor IIRC

No tracking, mostly highway miles with spirited driving

Mine just crapped out at almost exactly 76k miles, which was fantastic as my extended warranty expires in December, and the mechanic (indy) found the belt tensioner was going out as well.

c. Just under $500. New pump, tstat housing, bolts, hose, 2gal antifreeze, special sockets, silicone lube.

f. No track, although surviving on the DFW roads should count as track time. Just a daily driver.

At 106K, ordering replacement pump as I'm doing a coolant flush and oil filter housing at the same time. Might as well do it all at once.
