OP, don't bother wasting your time digging around and crawling under the car to look for a rubber tube. You can disable the flap from inside the trunk in less than 2 seconds.

In your trunk, remove the carpet cover on the drivers side tail lights. Once you have done that look towards the side of the car and you will see a connector with a metal latch on it. Push that latch in and remove the connector.

This is the solenoid connection that controls the flap, if you want to test if you have a flap or not doing this will bypass it and set it to open all the time (same result as the golf tee mod)

If you need further details PM me and I can walk you thru it over the phone. Very easy.

If I go this route, will the check engine light come on, or any codes?

No, this does not trigger a dash light or a check engine light, it will however trigger an exhaust flap code behind the scenes. You will only see it if you scan the car for codes.
Exact code is 12140 Exhaust fumeflap, input signal

FWIW mine has been pulled since delivery and so have countless others on this forum. If you want a quick way to test your exhaust sound and rule out the flap as a concern at the very least you can do it and drive around for a bit.
