Bit hard to clear codes and register the battery when it's still sitting at my parents place.
Getting it towed today to a local BMW specialist. Berwick Motor Works... Somewhat closer than taking it to Burwood. |

Let us know the outcome, hope its not too expensive, cars are getting way to complex with 100s of sensors.
Good luck

First time I saw those warning, the DSC module was replace which stuffed up the Idrive module. 2nd time I saw those warning, the steering wheel sensor was off.
Good luck!

Poor bloke.
I had a bit of a scare just last week; I had a sound system installed in my beemer, I drove it home with no problems, went to a mates, took him for a spin, went and met with mates at a cafe so it was all good so far. Afterwards, me and mate get back into the car, I turn the car on and I take off... But as I'm driving I feel something's wrong, like the car just would not let me accelerate over a certain speed. 2 seconds later "Transmission error" or whatever, I fukn shit myself. I pulled over, turned car off, locked it, unlocked it, started it back up and it was back to normal. Why that happened I have no fukn clue, but it's safe to say I almost had a heart attack. Keep us posted anyway man, hope it all works out well (and not too costly)!

Thinking/Hoping its the alternator regulator. From a quick Google its a $125 part from the US plus shipping.
I'm guessing the Stealerships would want to charge $800+ for an alternator. Considering a whole unit is like $550 from the states... Going to try eBay. As I said, the guy can't look at the car until next week, so will be waiting until then. Hopefully this weather holds, as I'm on the motorbike... |

Well as the cheapest I have been able to get a quote for an alternator is $855 I've had to wait until I have the funds... Moving into a new place next week, plus rego for this car and a whole host of things means I'm flat broke and can't get an alternator for this car for a little while.
Alternator was charging upward of 17v when Berwick Motor Works was testing it the other day, so all the computers were going into safety shutdown to save themselves. |

Ok, so long time no update...
Alternator has been replaced with a second hand unit from a 135i - works perfectly. Only now I've got another issue... Whatever it is that controls voltages after the regulator is playing up and throwing an error. Its lowering the power to the water pump - not a good thing to have happen. So, new quote for that part and all associated wiring is in the region of $760 plus labour. Joy of joys. Berwick Motor Works seem good, seems to be an honest guy who I've dealt with. Said he has done a c/o of a 335i engine as some nuffy blew it up. |

i don't get it?
If it's overcharging at 17v's doesn't that mean its the regulator? If it was the alternator that was bad it would be struggling to produce 12v with the engine running. I am scared this will happen to my car now Do you have a JB4 in? |

No, car is stock.
Regulator controls voltage just as much as the alternator will... And good luck finding a 335i regulator without an alternator with it. I don't think this is a terribly common issue. Google was a help, but it wasn't anywhere near as easy to find answers as say wastegate rattle. |
