They do just fine in the snow (and we have had plenty), but they perform much better when our roads are clear of snow and are just wet w/ melted chemicalized snow - which is 90% of the time. Any performance snow tire like the LMs or the Dunlop wintersports should work well for you.

You looking to go wider suggests to me that you are after max performance...and looking for max performance in the winter - even w/out snow, I think, is a bad idea. Even the best performance snow tire will not give you the performance in the winter that max performance summer tires give you in warm weather. The stock size should be a good compromise for you...and you will end up saving some money which you can put into wider summer tires.
Thanks for comment.

maybe 255 tires will be good. but that brings another topic.
255 on 18x9.5....?
Yes, I don't have to do 18x9.5.
But just for the question for 255 on 18x9.5.

Please share some comments or experience.
Thanks.

265 is way too wide for winter.... try not to go wider than 235...
Thanks for comment.
Oh Yeah, I don't want to be raped.

Great to hear that.

Thanks a lot, man. Very detailed, useful, and accurate information.
I'm very appreciate.

Seems like I have to reconsider about tires now.

To focus on wet and dry in winter with 265 tires, let's not get into snow issues.

According to the rating, I should consider "Michelin Pilot Sport All Season" seriously because all I want is a set of tires that gives me great traction on slippery, wet, dry roads around 0 degree Celsius(32 degrees Fahrenheit) in winter.

Doesn't such temperature effect its traction negatively?

does "Michelin Pilot Sport All Season" have the advantage to compare with "performance winters" due to their compound around 0'c degree?

Please give comments. Thank you.
You live in Vancouver area so you really don’t need snow tires as most would expect around here. As you know, most times we get far less than 5” snow and melts turning into a sheet of ice in matter of hours. Next day it rains and it is gone.

In short, for our area a the tire you want is good in wet weather near freezing temperatures with better ice performance than snow so it comes down to a good compound and tread design. In Vancouver you don’t want narrow tires at all.

I tired to buy some Pirelli Sottozero about two months ago but they sold out in my size so on summers and not problems at all.

For others we are lucky to have more than 5-6 days of snow on the ground a year. It is a warm climate in the winter in Vancouver so it not uncommon in the dead of winter to see temperatures -2 C on day and +10 C the next day and raining.

No experience w/ 255/35 on 9.5 inch wide rims, but tirerack lists the rim widths that would be compatible as being from 8.5 - 10 inches...so 9.5 should work - although it may give you the stretched look.

That seems to wide for a 255. It will probably give the tire a rolled in look, which to me looks terrible. The wheel will look like it's running on the pavement.

Pirelli Sottozero was a great choice, dude.
I might go for it.

Agree!
That seems terrible to me as well.
I'll just do 265. Thanks
