I had this issue for the past month. My warranty expired about 6 months ago and I was certain that the dealer would charge me an arm and a leg to fix this. So glad you posted this hack. Sure enough, I did exactly what you said and the issue is resolved -- for free!!!
Thanks for making my week! |

Thank you!!! Malfunction popped up on me on the way to work. Thanks to this post, it saved me a trip to the dealer as well.

This is initializing the sunroof...I can do it with my BT scanner. I didn't know there was a manual way to do it.

Just happened to me last night. At dinner I was so upset trying to figure out when I could make time to bring the car in. Tried this easy reset and problem solved. Now, no dealer hassle needed!
Thanks

I have tried this fix-it solution several times and nothing seems to work for my sunroof. When I hold the tilt button, the sunroof will partially tilt and won't do anything else. I have to keep hitting the tilt button for the sunroof to crack or even move a 1/2". I thought it was the motor for the sunroof but now I have no clue? BMW would like an arm and a leg just to look at it, of course.

This is what mine did two months ago so i bought it in for service oil change and told the SA to fix it at the same time. He said its easy fix but i forgot to ask him how he did it so now i'm having this same problem so I will try this out today!

Thanks, glad it was an easy fix...I was just defending bmws to someone who told me it was a money-pit, thought I was going to have to eat my words for a second...just for the record, I would drive it even if it was a money-pit
