Siding with Amigo Axel on this one. My buddy slapped the scoops on this spring and the car launches forward like an untamed beast. Said he saw a +5 HP on the dyno too.
Well sh!t me a kitten!
100% placebo effect. Glad it puts money in BMS' pocket. It's air that is redirected, as it would hit the radiator anyhow. I see how it can pull air into the engine bay but it's not going to become a beast all of a sudden.

I've been on the forums for years and this item comes up every 3-4 months with a bunch of debates and hilarious logic. If you've got the cash to waste, waste it on this.

Tell that to the dyno machine that added 5 ponies and the guy running the machine whose jaw was on the floor! The scoops made the D into a crazy beast!

Interesting. Link?

I'd be curious to know exact details for this comparison test. Was it before and after on same day with same fuel and same atmospheric conditions with same DPF conditions with same air filter loading with same fuel filter condition with same wheel/tires and tire pressure with exact same strapping technique with same external fan placement etc etc etc...? All those variables could easily swamp out 5 hp delta's (which is a very small % of even a stock 335d).

From my experience on multiple dyno trips with multiple vehicles 5 hp is easily within margin of error and repeatability of a chassis dyno for a given vehicle even when all the things above are the same on the same day.

Amigos nice thread but to clear things a bit more the SCOOPS are made out of ABS plastic so weight is not an issue here, all I can vouch is that the car responds better than OEM I CANNOT say if it gives any whp but that the car runs better, go ahead and spend $49 for the CYBA scoops ok thats all I can say

A local guy was looking at these for his N54 and asked about expected gains. I compared it to blowing into a vacuum cleaner.

He ordered them anyway for looks, but understood not to expect any power increase.

Read the commits on the video, very funny, I like how he had to put the blower right up against the scoop side and then held the blower away with the non scoop...

Guys - I think we can all agree that this mod does exactly what it is advertised to do....and that is, put some red color (as long as you buy the red version) behind your grill....so if thats what you are after...money well spent! As for performance gains???

Well put. Don't defend it but if you like the looks, go for it. I've seen red ones on cars around LA, and in my opinion, they look terrible. They stand out but not in an attractive way. But to each his own.

I had them on for a little bit.

All perceived HP gains (if any) are a placebo, let's be honest.

I think they look cool, because people will ask what are those red things, then when you explain it rams cold air into the car to make free extra horsepower by feeding the turbo's with more air and the vortex effect will make the car feel like its going to take off like a jet airplane...

Axel, buenos nochas. I have to agree with DieselRacer, but with a HUGE disclaimer. Does this scoop help in any substantive way, like DieselRacer, I don't think so. HOWEVER, Axel, your point is valid; air from in front of the radiator is better than air from behind it. And, it's only $50 so even if it sucks, so what? It'll go on my list of cosmetic upgrades even though it is technically a performance mod that gives like 0.0001% increase.

Agreed, it looks bad ass, I like racy looks on bmw because they are actually fast cars which means they can run spoilers, ground effects, rims, etc...

I am planning to buy these soon as i am convinced by this thread that they add 5+ hp and help lower intake temps. I think i am gonna go with red ones. They add style as well.
