Not that the Cayman is a bad car (its sublime) but a 335i we test drove felt at least as fast, much more comfy and less likely to be car-jacked lol!!
I had the pleasure of leaving a Cayman for dead on Tuesday - don't know if it was the 'S' as it never made it past me. Poor chap driving didn't look too pleased to be out pulled by an oil burner ........

A non S would have to be seriously revved to hope to stay with a well-driven 335d

An S if ragged would get away if driven well

If driven well when the road gets twisty, an S would leave most (non-supercar) cars - I'm a crap driver but still can drive the Cayman at huge speed on back roads.

i dont think it would, they aint much quicker than the old boxter s, and a stock335d would beat one.

in a straightline.

I agree - great chassis on the Cayman. S or no S I think that it will struggle to live with a 335d after it has had some 'treatment'

Is that a Cayman S vs a stock 335d?

If so I disagree - a remapped 335d has similar 0-60 and 0-100 times as a standard Cayman S

Cayman S 0-60 5 secs, 0-100 12 secs

Yep the mapped 335d should get these figures. I have averaged 5.1 secs to 60 and 11.9 secs to 100 using an Accelerometer.

a stock 335d, does 0-60 5.5 ish and 0-100 in late 12's high 13's

so with the EASE of acceleration on the 335d, i say it would quite easily beat a cayman S on the road let ALONE with a re-map.

Hmmmmmnnn .... the Cayman S is quicker in a straight line AND round corners.

Have a look at the EVO times around Bedfords West Circuit:

http://www.petspace.lv/c/index.php?p...track&track=10

e92 M3 = 1.26.60 / Porsche Cayman S = 1.26.85

Also some comparative times with the 335i:

http://www.petspace.lv/c/index.php?p...=458d5d96147b9

Can't quite see how the 335d would beat the Cayman S - unless maybe the 335d driver could break the laws of physics.

In a straightline buddy, i aint sayin it will compete round a track, ones a front engined 1600kg derv, ones a mid engined porker.

They must got a slow 335i to do that time, 335d, are as quick as that stock...

Not a hope the stock 335d would stick with a cayman S - unless he really fluffed the gears

But the Cayman S is evidently faster in a straight line as well Carlos.

How would the diesel win ?????

Well i beg to disagree, and im happy to line up and be silenced by one at the pod. In gear on a slip road. The cayman would not see which way the 335d went.

Ahhh .... I get it now.

Your strategy would be to race a Cayman S driven by a blind man who isn't allowed to change gear.
