I dont post much on any forum but I still try to put the odd thing on various sites. Seeing as most people are just driving around after a reset maybe it doesnt make much difference. The guide I used suggested that the gearbox had to be at a certain temperature for the graph to be stored in memory. I think it was 70degC. It required driving in both auto and manual mode and shifting gear at certain rpm.

The biggest change to the behaviour of my gearbox was changing the oil.
Thanks for looking anyway mate. I haven't had any luck finding it !

Would like a read through it though.

You did indeed... from a new supplyer of parts

Ah when I quoted you we were obtaining direct from BMW as we'd had issues supplying gearbox stuff, I actually got my own kit from incarmotorfactors but things change.

We had a moan if you like and we managed to get a rep to stand in front of us and I produced a bill from BMW for a sump added to fluid and stated we wanted to do work but we felt prices were too step using BMW parts yet were frustrated by lack of actual suply of kits from our susal supply chain.

We proved we do enough tranny service to get their attention shall we say and for the last few months I've got genuine ZF kits on tap for around the same price as I was obtaining a sump only from BMW... hence the price difference.

Adaptation wise I've done mine and we've done a few and TBH it was chargeable but now we are asking customers post work how does it drive and we've been blown away with the response as it transforms the car and we get em back for good, therefore we've just now opted to re set the adpatations once a trans service has been carried out as its the icing on the cake, yes once we did charge for it but you move forward in this game and we listen and now to us its proven to be the right thing to do and basically we've said no sod it we'll do it FOC for a better overrall result.

We'll always move adapt re what we offer and how we offer it and this is just one thing we have chosen to alter on all trans services from now on and will re set gear box adaptations FOC

Well explained, should have waited a few weeks!

Do you have a reset procedure or just reset and leave?

You re set via diagnostic the gearbox setting but you can also re set ECU adaptations too or if the gearbox has a particular issue with the diagnostic machine connected and 2 people in the car you can do a live relearn procedure which is time consuming but really only comes out to play if the gearbox has a particular issue(but its rare in most cases to go down this avenue)

Would love to do this myself but afraid to do it. How much would BMW charge for this sort of work?

My bad! Should've read the through the thread first.

I'll be bringing her into you at some point Steve

Cool no worries I get the gen ZF kit as I'm sure I've stated elsewhere post work re set the adaptations now and since we've opted to do this on every service people are amazed re the difference and comment via emails how different the overall experience is hence why we do it now every time

A gearbox adaptation reset makes such a massive difference to how the car drives. Mine gets very sluggish after a while..it feels like the road is made of treacle and the 'box feels very sloppy. I've had BMW look at it several times and they say there is no actual fault there and they all do it.

I decided to reset my adaptations last week and it brought the car back to life. There's no longer that issue with the car bogging down when accelerating and shifts are smooth and seamless.

I'm sure the fluid change helps even more, but I can't recommend everyone with the auto box getting their adaptations reset occasionally to keep things running tip-top.

I recently had my gearbox serviced as well by Steve at A1BN. I have to say he did an amazing job, the car felt completely transformed after the new ZF kit was fitted. I also had my rear diff oil changed at the same time, can't recommend the guys enough for it.
