I may come off sounding like a jackass, but if the idea of fixing an out of warranty BMW stresses you out this much (personally & finacially) then maybe you bought the wrong car. It sounds like you worked your ass off to cover the initial costs of the car, just didn't leave enough for maintenance & ownership costs.

I've had the car for a year and a half I've fixed tons of stuff onto it including runs performance rotors and pads I've just had this bump on the road I have money to fix it I just don't want to get stuck fixing a ton of stuff on it because I heard they were reliable cars and not Honda civics. The issue I'm having us trying to avoid paying 2 grand for a water pump install when I have a mechanic that does it for free and I can save tons of money on it. My issue is just trying to figure out what is wrong with it and avoid extra damage.

Sorry to hear your issue OP, I had the water pump failed on my 09 335i xDrive but lucky for me the water pump failed right after I had my oil changed at dealer, towed my car back to dealer and they replaced my water pump FOC even my car is out of warranty.

Water pump install is 1000 bucks at the dealer. If you have a mechanic who will do it for free parts will set you back about $650.

She's all good! Took me and my mechanic 4.5 hours to swap ts and wp. Car runs perfectly runs on blue coolant scanned it to delete all codes and now my baby's back.

What we did:

Took fan off just left radiator in.

Took coolant reservoir off let coolant spill

Took off ac compressor

Took off passenger wheel well to access ts

Took off ts

Took off wp

I wish I had pictures to show you guys the process. But it was fairly easy I even drove the car for an hour or 2 after the process and she runs like a dream.

Job was started at 8pm finished by 12:30 1:00 including smoke breaks and chatting.

Really happy she's all good again!

All that work is unnecessary. The WP and Tstat can be swapped by lowering the sway bar only. Unless it's some spacial concern with the XI.
