I didnt see it rise till about the 4th-5th lap. About a hour of hard driving in a high rpm band. I saw about 265-270 temp spikes. Ill keep everyone updated when I get the car back.

Could you explain your meth kit setup? Thanks.

But some members have the same kit also. Im going to be using the Snow performance stage 2 progressive boost controler kit with the SafeInjection Wastegate Solenoid. I believe theres a few other people running the same kit on the forums. Going to use the wind shield reservoir probably. 50/50 for me at first. 50% water 50% meth, ill probably have it come on @ 4/5 psi then taper around up to 14 psi.

I am probably going to do the Stage 1 to save me some cash and I figure it will work just as well. Is there any advatages/disdvantages using the windshield resevoir as opposed to the trunk mounted tank? I was told I could still wash my windshield as the solution for the injection is of the same components as the stock windshield washer fluid (but in different proportions). Stage 1 kit will allow me to tell it when to start spraying and when to stop spraying, correct? The only difference is that stage 2 allows you to taper the spray right?

Hey Sherwin,
I brought this up in other threads, but did you measure your water temps before you put in the oil cooler? Are you going to measure it again afterwards? Everytime people start putting things in front of the radiator it starts to worry me. I completely understand how you want to see the temps drop in the oil but it would suck if the temps in your water started to go way up. I have an IC on the way and one of the things I'm going to measure is the before and after water temps. To me this is extremely important and I think a bunch of people forget about this just because we don't have a water temp gauge.

Ya I have measured it before when I put on my FMIC. Everything was the same. The FMOC doesnt block any part of the radiator. Its at the very bottom of the radiator. Its in the dead space where the stock FMIC use to be in.

although IMHO you cannot go wrong with any of the better ICs, just curious to see which IC an educated consumer is getting.

Just got my car back for a day to try out the oil cooler.
The new lines for the additional oil cooler were tapped from the existing lines for the original OC. The first idea was to make the lines come directly from the heat exchanger but this wasnt possible due to the hood clearance. First impressions on the additional oil cooler. The oil that was added to supply the additional cooler was only 1/2 a quart if that. The lines were done very clean all I have to do to make them look stock is either get black iodized T cupplers or spray paint mine flat black. Once warmed up the cars temp would sit at like 190-200 F+. I cruised around 60-80 mph on the freeway in 6th gear @ around 2-2.5k rpms for about a hour or so. The temps stayed at 195-205ishF+ would not go 1 degree over. I decided to call up a friend of mine that has a z4m coupe to do some highway / canyon runs with me. 1. highway (ambient temps were about 70 degrees)- Did 8 back to back 40-140 mph runs. No cool down in between runs. I would usually hit at least 230-240F+ temps by the 4th/5th run and have to give the car a cool down by cruising a bit. On the 8th run the temp would not go past 215-220F+. When it hit 220 I cruised for about 1 min (1/2 a mile) @ around 60 mph and the temp quickly dropped back down to 205F+. Traffic- I got stuck in traffic around 4pm or so. My traffic temps use to be around 230-235F+ (bumper to bumper traffic only using 1st gear). Since theres not much cooling going on when your car is moving a max of 15 mph a min. With the additional oil cooler added I saw my temps were at 210F+ with an ambient temp of around 68F+. Finally after getting out of traffic I hit up the nearest canyon with my friend and cruised it for a bit... I suck at canyons and hate heights so... I cant really say how the temps will hold up in a track like road until I go to the track hahah. Also for those wondering how much it cost. I have a break down list of everything. -Setrab oil cooler core : $170 (1) -Setrab - 10 90 22mm push on H/E : $72 (for 2) -5/8 Parker hose : $60 (for 10) -XRP- 10STR push on H/E 5/8 : $52 (for 6) -XRP - 10 push-LOK clamps : $16 (for 8) - Fabrication / Install /w materials : Anyways as you can see that everything with install, parts, material, fabrication, installation was about a bit lower than 1k. Happy with the product. Its doing the job that I asked for now we will have to see how it does as the days go by. The car is back at the shop under going more stuff... But anyways heres a picture of what it looks like from the engine bay, and also a video of the cars oil temp after drive a hour and 1/2 going 80-85 mph in 6th gear at night, ambient temp was about 53-55F+. (going back to the shop) If you cant see it, its at 190-195F+.

It was about a 2-3 day thing to do. So id guess if you factor in the labor in stuff. They had to custom fabricate all the brackets test the hoses and check the oil pressure, make sure everything was working on the car correctly. Plus I had him do a little more stuff for my car than just install an oil cooler. lol

It was good for freeway runs or drag strip runs. Considerably better than stock. I recently went to an autox event with a few of my friends. I saw my temps and didnt like where they were and wanted to something about it. I wanted my temps to stay at about 210F+ even in 80-100 degree weather, high reving the engine ect . So I decided to add another one. I would put in a bigger unit in the wheel well but there wasnt enough room. Thats the just of it.

Hey Sherwin, just curious - how do you like track/autox compared to drag strip?
Secondly, did you ever consider adding another "stock" cooler to the driver's side well? Basically mimic the passenger side stock setup. |

Auto-X and drag strip racing are TWO DIFFERENT worlds. Both are loads of fun, and I am sure if you enjoy driving your car then you will enjoy Autocross..........there are many people on here including me that do both.......... |

Hmm... so you have your oil coolers on a T. I'm wondering if one gets a lot more flow than another since they're not in a single continuous (point to point) loop... I would figure that the cooler which is more "free flowing" is going to get more oil pumped through it.
Definitely a cool setup and would love to be able to replicate it in the future. Do you have any data or thoughts on the oil pump and it's capacity to pump the oil through 2 coolers? Did you notice a thermostat in the oil system? It's been mentioned here that there is a 230*F thermo in the oil cooling system. If that's the case, oil temps should rarely drop below 230*F. Can you confirm? TIA, looks great.
