Iv had nothing at all on the dash a couple of times before lol main reason being I get lazy and forget to fill up after work then on the way into work the next morning I don't leave enough time to fill my car so have to run on fumes lol. But most of the time I just wait until the fuel light pops up.

I never let mine go below 50 miles. Put me off an M3 when in the advert it had a pic of the dash and it had 3 miles or something. May not mean much to other people, but things like that make me think what else have they been slack on or neglected.

Never ever allow my car to run below 1/4 tank, seen too many cars through here with issues when checked tank ventilation has flagged up too many times to mention. Usually if running the car down to the minimum is repeated again and again you may well encounter issues that cost money to repair and all for running the car too low regarding fuel

even with the range showing 0, you still have at least 1gal in the tank, filling it up at a 1/4 tank just makes no sense. (its a 63L tank, even with the mileage showing --- and having driven an extra 20miles to the petrol station, the absolute MOST I've got in the car was 61.399L, so even driving 20miles with "no fuel", I have over 1.5L left in the tank. back in the day with a mechanical diesel, running it empty was a hindrance, and you had to bleed the injectors but with common rail diesels now, that's not an issue. The "sucking crap up from the bottom of the tank" is also a fallacy, tanks today are make out of plastic, plastic doesn't corrode, so unless your pouring rust down the filler neck, in there will be spotless. besides, where does the pump draw from anyway, it sits in a pot, in the lowest point in the tank. |

I thought this as well, but willing to be educated by the learned on this forum!

Tanks are made of plastic very true thing is as the fuel level gets low you can have issues, as said I see a fair few issues re cars that have been run very low on fuel, but you're quite right there is a good deal of fuel still in a tank when it shows 0 miles on the clock thing is long term as I've learnt its better to fill up when the tanks got some fuel in as preventative measure.
