+1

My rear flat was not a puncture but a huge pot hole.

The front tire runs it over while it's laying flat and stands it up enough to puncture the rear tire

You are correct. What usually happens is that the front tire not only stands it up but spins it like a top so it stays up. The rear tire then drives itself down over the object. Like standing a nail on end and slamming it with a 2by4.

Biggest thing I ever took out of a tire was a 6"X5/8" bolt. No, it wasn't repairable. BTW, most punctures can be repaired. The question is the integrity of the tire after the repair. Yes, RFTs can be safely repaired and not have their use or life in any way impaired. But the carcass must be closely checked for damage, and the repair technique must be correct. Only a professional can tell you whether your tire can be repaired. The dealership will almost certainly tell you that an RFT cannot be repaired. That is their business decision and not based on fact.

Could be driving the 20 miles or so on it, the part heated up nicely since it was hitting asphalt every rotation of the tire..

How's it going by the way, long time no talk..

Interesting stuff. Yeah I am considering this tire a done deal. I wouldn't really trust it again. I'll order one tomorrow, I just have to see whether its cheaper on tirerack or through the dealership with CCA discount (if it can be used on tires)..

NON RFT>RFT
Did the tire still had pressure?

Interesting.. thats a pretty low profile tire though.. With a 16" wheel, this tire would have been completely flat, and the rim would have been right on the ground. That corner would have been down 4" or so.. With the Boston roads the way they are, I would have been giving off a nice early July 4 fireworks display..

Now if you want to send me a nice set of 19's to put them through the incredible Boston environment, let me know, I'll give them a shot!!
