I'm wondering if your local BMW CCA chapter can direct you to a former master mechanic from a dealership. One with ECU experience.

They often do, sadly. I've seen the bottom of boxes absolutely soaked just from the oil dripping off of the element.. from a filter on the shelves. For this reason, I use paper elements.

Cleaning the MAF often times does not work, so if the problem continues after the cleaning, please don't assume your MAF isn't at fault.

INPA provides a lovely graph with bounds for regular values of a MAF... It isn't difficult to read or record this graph while you let the engine go through some driving conditions. From there, you can easily determine if your MAF is wonky or not...

Pretty much why I never use oiled filters or K&N products.

Also one thing I noticed when racing, our engine response and power is pretty instant compared to most cars out there, I feel like when I push the accelerator my car just goes, compared to others where it feels like they re engine is waking up slowly.... (not talking about turbo cars only..) |

I feel your pain TheAxiom! Been battling with my car's pinging problem for ages, and this includes some definite dips in power delivery around low to mid revs. Below 2000 rpm there are some dips, along with the pinging, and then around 2500 rpm there are some stumbles, but at roughly 3000 rpm (sometimes 2800 or 3200 rpm) there is a distinct dip in power which is so annoying! I have done so much already trying to solve this, in the end it is just robbing me blind! And my car is 100% stock, so not an issue with a mod gone wrong or "fiddling" of any kind. So frustrating.

Try and see if you can swap the MAF out with a good one from another car and see. One of my more recent endeavours was to just replace the MAF with a new one, but made no difference - was a calculated gamble, sort of like buying this car. LOL

I will do that, I have just been driving after reset to adaptations. Torque feels better, stronger for sure - top end is fantastic.

The car does feel a little flat at times, but for the most part it feels a lot better. I'm going to swap the MAF and see if that helps any more. So far I would put it at a 7/10 Most of the time, but when it's 10/10 it REALLY Scoots.

Any updates here? What did you finally do to resolve your issue?

So...I guess I'll try using my other MAF and/or buying a new one. I emailed OE about my most recent dyno, so let's see what they say. |
