I guess it depends on how big of a tire you're picking up. I was comparing Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s on TireRack, and the difference between the non-RFT and RFT tires for a 225/40ZR18 size is only $30. ($238 vs. $268, respectively.) That makes it pretty silly to try to save the $30 and risk permanently gumming up a TPMS sensor.

I used the mobility kit to repair a flat on my E46 M3. It plugged the leak, inflated the tire enought to get to the repair shop, and did not damage the TPS.

Different mobility kit but this is the answer that I received from TireRack. I haven't bought the kit and ditched the RFT's but I plan to.

"The sealant in the ContiComfort kit is latex based and can be washed out of the tiny orifices in the TPM sensors. At $50 an hour shop charge this could be cleaned out in just over an hour saving you the cost of a sensor. The cost of the sensor is $50. So most shops just suggest that you replace it.

Shop will not refuse you service but it is polite to forewarn them that there is sealant inside the tire. It gets everywhere and smells a bit like ammonia."

I have used the Mobility Kit, and it really works. The sealant stopped a slow leak (from an untightened TPMS valve), and then the pump reinflated my tire to get me back on the road. Then I got the sealant cleaned out of the tire and the valve gaskets replaced and the TPMS reinstalled for FREE by Discount Tire. (So I also recommend them, naturally.) Just don't let the sealant sit in your tire for more than about a day -- it could harden and ruin the tire and the valve. Of course, the sealant cannot be used if the hole or gash is very large (or on runflat tires after a blowout -- they are not supposed to be reinflated and reused after a flat, only replaced). The Mobility Kit was just over $100 from the dealer with a coupon. I think it was definitely worth the cost to be able to get going in 10 minutes on my own. I got a replacement can of sealant for $40, well worth the cost if I need it again. (Maybe I should confirm that the sealant didn't plug up the pump's valve?)
