Anyone catch the blatant dig at season 1 director Cary Fukunaga?

It was during the scene where they were interrogating...well a film director.

Looks like writer/creator Nic Pizzolatto is passive aggressive as hell.

Just watched the 3rd episode. Like the first season, it's really starting to amp up. Really liked this episode. I think it will get better and better each week.

I don't remember that...What happened again?

One thing that is def. clear; the writer of this show clearly thinks v highly of himself. Though I enjoy the dialogue, sometimes it gets a bit too platitude-y for me.

Agreed. "The plot thickens".

Cary Fukunaga and Nic Pizzolatto evidently didn't get along behind the scenes during season 1 and as such, Fukunaga wasn't asked to return to direct during season 2.

In last Sunday's episode, Velcoro and Bezzerides visited a film set to get information that may create some leads in the death of Casper, the director on set (who did look similar in likeness to Fukunaga), turns out, is a bit of a trainwreck with an alcohol and sex problem.

The entire thing only lasted a few minutes.

I think you are, too. They pretty much laid it out in his 'conflict' with the former Army buddy.

I do worry that Pizzolatto is turning this season into a personal gripe tour. His ego is pretty transparent in watching the show and hearing the dialogue. To this point it's ok because the characters (particularly Ray and Ani) interest me, but I hope he tones it down a bit.

They've given McAdams some brutal dialogue to go through. Her character is not about BS, so why is she waxing poetic so much? Seems out of place with her hard-charging, no frills attitude.

^^Surprised he didn't go all Rambo! Damn! So many cops got shot straight in the head or face.

Bike cop -- confirmed closet sausage smoker, and does not know how to deal with it. Best bet to cure it is to get married I guess.

McAdams -- what a role reversal with the power and sex scandal she might have to endure.

Farrell -- Looked to be like one of the worst internal fights within himself may be the true hero and softie of the group.

Vaughn -- fast spiral back to thuggery. Some of the most wonderful lines he puts out sounds awesome! With the bite and anger of some of the most "matter of fact bitch" comments he makes to his wife about what he is doing is fantastic! I want more! I love this character hands down!

Pretty much spot on with each character. I love how they're developing Ray; two episodes ago I viewed him as a burnt-out has-been with too much testosterone. As you said, in some ways he may have the strongest character of any of the protagonists.

Also cray cray to see how quickly+easily Vaughn has slid back into the criminal underworld.

I've been a bit on the fence but the last two episodes have been excellent. The first season lurched quite arbitrarily for the first two or three episodes IIRC.

It is crazy the feeling I got when McAdams got that news of the basic sexual harassment thing. It was like WTF, is this really happening to a woman? The dude is a pussy for doing this crap and throwing a tantrum when he can't get that wonder tang she put on him. LOL! Feeling rejected he strikes back with Internal Affairs to get back at her. What a douche and great writing to flip the script on real life stuff.

Having Farrell give the encapsulated badge from his father forebode that he knew some crap was going to hit the fan.

Also to the end sequence -- When McAdams say "We don't need SWAT" She wanted to go in early to catch the guy and said "Better Safe Than Something Else".

She is going to get a heap of crap come down on her for that call.

What do you thing blew up above the dude in the window. Drug lab or something. Could it be tied back to Vaughn?

Could Farrell trying to help Vaughn ultimately come back to hurt him?

Why is the land sooooo important? Understanding past what Vaughn said "the last pork barrel outside of defense", there must be something else on it or under it. The map that the guy showed and had too many chemicals in the soil could have been someone with enough clout to skew the data so that land owners wanted to leave.

I think Kespar knew he was selling swamp land to his clients. That what I got from that scene showing all the chemicals in the soil. They are many people who wanted that guy dead.

Great firefight scene. I'm glad that fat, nasty detective got it in the head!

it could also suggest Caspar was poisoning the lands to get the farmers out so that the prices on the land would go down so they could buy it all at a cheaper price in anticipation for the rail way.

The mines that were talked about may also play a point later. The poison land could be a deterrent from people discovering something else going on in the mines.

Good point. Didn't think of that. The show has gotten better and better each episode. Similar to season one.

Went back and re-watched the first episode again...Having seen it once, it's so much more cohesive and sensible the second time around. Knowing the characters' personalities makes it a lot less disjointed. I felt the same way with season 1.

Saw it with some distractions from the ex being at my house. So I have to re-watch Sunday's 07-19-2015 again. Lol

You know how that goes. Lol

Nothing to say about July 26th episode?

Seemed a little lacking.

The scene with Ray and Frank in his kitchen was awesome. The tension was palpable. The final scene at the mansion was great.

I agree with the first scene. But the mansion scene... WTH! Really? Lol Not to say it wasn't good stuff but real life knocking someone out without alerting others, missing henchmen, breaking in with out alarms, not really a chase given after they get in the car. What the hell kind of sex party is this. The organizers got the pussy down right but left the security lack.

And also to the party -- I guess 2 bleeding dudes were not the concern of high as shit party goers. "Wait, let me get my nut off before I do anything else." says the dude having sex in the stairway hall.

What was great about the fire fight in the street -- realistic. The "Mansion Scene" -- Hollywood fodder.

Ha! I totally agree. I guess I blindly by the pussy.

They're taking regular kinda down and out loser detectives and turning them into a SWAT team sneaking into a mansion. Tough to believe. But, hey, it is Hollywood and it's all about entertainment.
