I don't disagree but the 328d has gone too far in the direction of efficiency in my view. That said, I love the fact that the 335d is fast and relatively efficient. The 328d is just a bore to drive.

You can always improve on power or fuel efficiency.
You can never improve driving dynamics (steering, suspension design, weight distribution, etc).

I just can't see myself buying a newer BMW. They are all RWD Buicks now.

I've been a bmw fanboy for over 20 some years now and I agree with you. Over the last couple years I've had several loaner F30 328s including a great looking M sport in bright red, but the driving dynamics and feel just leave me uninspired. They don't beg to be pushed, they don't urge ya to rev out the motor, they don't have that precise steering feel of man and machine. They just feel numb and somewhat blah.

All that said, the above factors convince me that dealing with the issues of the 335d are worth it compared to the alternatives out there.

Yes, my 335d w/sport option is as close to my old Carrera 3.2 (also w/sport suspension) that I dare to afford/get to. The F30 seems more like a "poor man's E-Class" which is not a bad thing, but not really as sporty.

The fuel economy isn't that great, even though its far better than the gasoline equivalents for e90's. BMW puts out the 535d which is only a few hundred pounds more than the 335d and gets the job done in some categories, but again, not as sporty perhaps and much more expensive.

Warranty is a necessity if I keep the 335d. Just did a CBU overhaul. I am going to block off EGR with the plates and anything else to make it more reliable. Maybe removing DPF etc. will help make it more reliable? Would like to keep a tune, currently running a JBD.

What about the extended maintenance? Could I get away without it save $ at an independent shop? I'm in Miami, so there's a couple around here.

I agree completley. Its like having my cake and eating it too. If i could afford to have (and park) 2 cars i'd love an s2000 and a diesel truck, but with the d i have both, in the same car!

Also when i got my last loaner the lady at the counter was very keen to tell me that the had a system that would tell them if i drove too fast. It was like she thought the 328 loaner would be faster than my car lmao.

A few months ago I had my wife test drive a 328d when our warranty was about to expire. We had barely gone a couple of blocks and she had a frown on her face. "Why did you waste my time by making me drive this tractor" she said. We kept the 335d

Love my 328d but I am thinking about doing the down pipe and EGR delete. Any advice? who has the best system for the price?

I just bought a 335d (2011) and compared to the 328 (2017)which i test drove all i can say is dont.

the 328 was awful. felt awful, sounded awful, lacked all the features of a 335.
I also drove a 535d which was nice but way out of my price range at $40k used.

Honestly I'd buy an ///M car before I'd go for another Diesel especially the 328d, You will miss the performance and you will run into the same reliability issues down the road.

Also I'd never buy another out of warranty BMW ever again, Mine is about to die, While going to work I felt some horrible things I fear it's the bearing rods going out...

+1 for The Castle and WD335D. I have the 330d with the tunes and flashes and all that and nothing can catch me especially on launch. F30 and others do not have anything to take on the 330+335d.I must admit though, the 335 just pips me everytime.I am so tired of all these 335i and F series trying to out run me. It must be frustrating for them. The last 2 M3s wanted to look under the bonnet. They did not and would not accept it was a Diesel.

I share this sentiment. The E90 feels waay soft. I can't stand the overly aggressive electro-nannies. I would KILL for a manual in it too.

My old, underpowered 318ti was a true driver's car. Fun, light, tossable, balanced. Can I just get this package with 500 ft-lbs of diesel goodness torque, please?

And at the risk of sounding like a heathen, my old ALH Tdi was just way more fun to drive. This car is certainly far faster, but I miss DRIVING.
