Florida is a poor state. We get 50% of the old retired people from up north, the other 50% die on their way!!! Really it's a good place to retire but most old people do not have a lot of money so they don't spend. Live in Miami downtown and you will be seeing homeless at night, sirens all over, caos as all downtowns, traffic, etc etc. go to Key west and relax, live in Hialeah and you will be amongst the worst criminals from Cuba, live in Palm Beach and play Golf and Tenis and worry about making a decision between going to a Ferrari dealer or a Bentley dealer. South Florida is metropolitan area. Lots of money, big financial city, big time in commerce transactions. Miami is a BIG city. It's in the middle of every other state and country. Capital of the world? Maybe not but going that way. I love it, but I wouldn't live down there if you have family. Perfect city for a bachelor. Very tough to raise a family. Overall Florida is a great place to live. Not a lot of culture and history, but still a good place to live. All depends on the area your living. My best friend was German maried to a Latin girl, living 5 min from downtown and they love it. Go check the history of Manhattan, Chicago, LA....it's not good, but people still live there and most of them are happy. It's true, Florida is not a rich State and we have many cultural differences, needs, wants and problems. Hey, if there is a Perfect state out there let me know, because I haven't heard of it. They all have there own problems.

I work in downtown Miami and bums are lined up in front of where I work on the sidewalk always asking for $$ whenever I make the courageous attempt to walk to Publix (It's a supermarket FYI). I hate the NW area as it reminds me of Newburgh/Poughkeepsie NY with palm trees. I don't think its tough to raise a family here, though. Mainly depends on the area you live in. Doral/Kendall/Pinecrest/South Miami IMHO are the best areas and I avoid all the bad areas like the plague. I've been here for two years and my son loves it down here as we've been fortunate to live in a exclusive area in Kendall with no issues.

FL is mostly made up of people who moved here form the North East, which explains a lot. There seems to be some conspiracy where all the north eastern states exile their crazies to FL.

For me, the worst thing about living in Tampa is that a 1.5 hour drive gets you nowhere interesting. And despite this being the pain med abuse capitol of the world, i've yet to succumb to almost zero pressure i've felt from anyone to do any prescribed or unprescribed drugs.

Great sunsets though. Almost daily from anywhere in FL.

I love Florida... but it totally sucks.... really, super sucks.... none of you people should move here.......

I think you are wrong about not having a lot of culture and history. Florida is actually chalk full of history and interesting things. Heck, we have the oldest city in the US.

I live out in west Fort Lauderdale. I see horses everyday. Great family area. But just 30 minutes to South Beach, 10 minutes to a world class hotel/casino, and everything else you could ever want. I've never been anywhere else that I like more, and I've traveled a lot.

99% of the people who think Florida sucks, especially South Florida, are simply making no effort to experience everything we have to offer here.

hahhaa..

a thread dedicated to hating florida...

our weather blows, (who wants sunny weather year round, and temps that never dip below 40)

we have gorgeous beaches, ewwww.. who likes beaches?

our roads don't have potholes... ugh, i would kill for potholes.

and we have the best women in the US... ugh, so stressful seeing latinas everywhere.

and say what you guys want about the people down here, but they are much better here than in the NE. Everyone in Jersey or NY is .1 seconds away from having an aneurysm. It's laid back down south.

Keep hating, 98% percent of you talking trash will "dream" of retiring here. lmao

South Florida does ruel. The east cost ,from Delray down to Miami. Fla. Has the best strip clubs!!!! Best roads to drive on. Winter in fla hands down is the best. I live in NJ. And absolutely hate it. Winters suck. Have to store my M4. Roads are filled with potholes. Place is a shithole. I have a place in the Fla Keys. I'll take it over Dirty Jerzeeeeeeee. Should I continue???????

Holy smokes...I gotta come in on this thread.

I've lived here for 23 years but born and raised North East of Boston. Yes...FL is a state with crazy crime, hanging chards and old people BUT there are some cities you can live in and it's not that bad: Pan handle, Sarasota, NE FL, etc...

Mind you, SE FL is like Beirut...stay away...A few years ago some black guy shot a 14 yo girl and her mom in the face on Christmas Eve as they were trying to enter the Town Center Mall in Boca Raton. This shit doesn't happen in very many places. I lived down there right after college...

BUT FL has no State income tax, lax gun laws, cheap housing, employment is decent..have some skills and you can do well. It's hot but better than the ugly Winters in other places.

Aside from the loser Democrats who moves down here, the state is leaning towards Republican...all in all...solid.

You mean MILF? Hot grandmas are just wrong even if they bake you cookies and make your bed afterwards.

Yea - Sarasota is a really laid back place that has many positive features (entertainment, art, food, air travel), and has likely the best gulf side beaches in FL...

Bought a place on Lido Key some years back - I come down in the summer months and it's like I have a private beach!

Winter months...different story though...

IMHO the driving roads here aren't as fun as the twisties back up north. However, I do enjoy the drive taking A1A from Palm Beach down to Miami. Overall jobs don't pay well but if you have a trade like everywhere else you'll be fine. People can't drive for shit here though and registering a car for the first time will set you back at least $400-$500! Insurance rates are cheaper compared to what I paid in NY and no state inspections

Boring. That would just about sum up Lakeland

It's actually quite nice, feels very "southern" compared to metro parts of Fl.

Central and North Florida are shit holes.

I always say Florida is the only state where the further north you drive, the more southern it gets.

I love it here but then again I don't exactly live in Miami proper either. I think people's perception of South Florida is usually based on what they see as tourists/visitors which isn't all there is. The horrible driving is about all I can honestly say I truly despise about living here.
