and I think the PE will still be ok with any future mod on the parts like DP, BOV?
I just don't want to have the sound like a Japanese mod car with lots of pops.
Power wise, I feel like the stock 335 is powerful already, at least for now. (I came from a 325).

In saying that though, changing the downpipes will change the exhaust note as well.
changing DP need to accompany by a JB4 or other tune such as MDH.
and I was quoted $1600 for a VFRS 3" DP supplied and fitted here in Perth.
with that money, I can achieve a decent sound from a used PE already, no?

Do the Golf tee mod for the stock exhaust and see if your happy with the sound 1st.

Cost is like the price of one golf tee piece...

You can rectify that by doing the golf tee mod

I am going to do the golf tee mod anyway, and should be an easy fix...

however, the more article i read, I found that it might be vacuum leak?
if so, I don't want to just leave it...and started to rectify it properly before anything goes worse...

Video (sound at around 0:05)
Was your ac on at the time?

Sounds like either the radiator fan or water pump spinning up and going straight to high speed...

I know that my radiator fan hardly ever operates unless I'm idling for extended periods of time or if I have AC turned on.

I can't really remember if I had AC on at that time.
But if AC is on, does that "Sounds like either the radiator fan or water pump spinning up and going straight to high speed" normal?

And if you say that your radiator fan hardly ever operates unless idling for extended time, if my radiator fan spins without AC on nor idling for extended time, can I assume that something is wrong with my car and start looking closer to it? (Just want to learn more sign of potential issues.

All this ticking and rattle is part of owning a 335i.

FYI once you get DP's everything will be much louder you should hear my wastage rattle.

Car is starting to sound like a golf

The exhaust flapper rattling on start up can be fixed - they're not all like that.

Also, I believe Andrew said you can just disable the exhaust flap by disconnecting the harness in the boot underneath the left tail light. No need to pull the vacuum line off and plug it.

Could be a vac leak from the vac pump lines -> flaps. Need to disconnect the vac lines from the flaps and plug them off. Then get a big syringe to test whether the lines hold vacuum.

For the golf tee mod, there are 2 methods,
1) unplug in the truck but there will be an error code (not appearing on dash though$
2) unplug the vacuum line near the exhaust.

I prefer the latter option as I don't want to have any error code when I scan the car.
I remember I saw the DIY for the latter method before but I couldn't find it, may I ask if anyone has the link to that?
I can't remember what size of the cap to be bought for the vacuum line after unplugging it.

Many thanks.

so, I have done the golf tee mod by just unplugging the vacuum line and instead of using a plug, I just used a screw to seal the vacuum line.

Have the car independently checked today, found oil leak (mechanic told me should be the oil filter housing gasket & rover cover), getting hold of BMW and see if they will fix it for me as per statutory warranty.
I hope they will fit it.

Uneven ride height on these cars is normal. 1. They generally weigh more down on one side than the other in the rear due to the fuel tank weight and 2. Incase you slide sideways at high speed, uneven ride heigh on the rear avoids you to flip the car for safety. Every single bmw that i had, i have measured from wheel to guard incl. The e92 m3 had one rear side lower than the other. Congrats on the purchase. Enjoy it and your car sounds normal to me..

this is why we reccomended an independent inspection before handing over the $. You give them a list of stuff to fix as part of the condition of sale.

G/L with the repairs
