Size-wise I like the car. Reminds me more of my favorite E30 3-series cars that I've owned. I like that alot. However that size car no longer meets my needs. The E90 class meets my needs. If i were single - sure a 1-series would fit the bill. But, like others have said, the price difference is not enough to warrant downsizing. I appreciate what BMW is trying to do but I think that they would have been better off to go more bare-bones and kept the car very simple. The pricing and equipment level makes the jump to a 3-series seem like a no brainer to me. Plus, at least from photos, it's a much better looking car. It will be interesting to see how the sale play out.

I meant to say the 3-series is the better looking car.

The 1-series is unusually porky for its size... Nicely optioned it's very close to a 335i in terms of features and price.
I don't really know who will buy this car, people who want a third car? I know for a fact that no 20 year olds can afford this car (at least to make BMW be in the black ![]() It's an interesting experiment if you ask me, I am curious to see how well they sell. For some reason, I think they will actually sell very well in stripped versions with the N54 in it.

For me, 135i. It does what I want slightly better for slightly less money.
For someone who puts more value on interior room, or curb appeal, 335i. And to answer an earlier posters 5-60 vs 0-60 question, it's a matter of launch. When you have the clutch completely out, you're usually going about 5mph. Hitting the gas from this point will result in slower acceleration to 60 than dumping the clutch from a stop. As for the 100-106 comments, the answer is simple there too. Gear change. The reason the 135i doesn't have a bigger 1/4th lead is because it isn't much faster off the line, and top end acceleration doesn't play nearly as much of a roll in 1/4th mile time as the first 60 feet off the line does. The 0-100 and 0-140 numbers give a better idea of how the car would do in a real world, highway rolling start scenario like you see on you-tube, compared to the traction dependent 0-60 and 1/4th mile times. The difference suggests that the 135 would only be 2 car lengths or so ahead in a 0-1/4th scenario, but in a highway roll to 140, would end up more like 5-7 car lengths ahead. I think the (drag limited) is probably a typo, and just like the 135i, it's a non sport-package car hitting the limiter. |

BTW, the 135i is 6 grand cheaper than the 335i coupe. Somehow when people compare the two this price keeps dropping. First its 5k cheaper, then all of a sudden only 4k cheaper.

![]() I conclude a fair amont of the members here, have not actually looked into the BMW 135i or even understand what BMW has done. This is a high-performance BMW. If you were on top of you BMW game.. you'd know that alot of information on this car has hit the waves in the last 2-3 weeks. Europeans are getting delivery and all the stuff those mags couldn't tell you... are even better. 0-60mph in 4.7seconds, real weight of the car is 3,200lbs. Handling is exceptional in this very tossible Bimm and recently beat the Porsche Cayman in slalom and track coarse. I cannot see why 135i & 335i are pitted against each other. This is not a contest between the two, it is simply, most people have not grasped what the 135i is...! I beleive the 135i is the car we have been waiting for. FUN! The simple physics/tangables of the car cannot be denied; very tunable engine, 3200lbs, great chassis tune, brakes, ediff, etc... I'm 38 and was considering another corvette (C6) or a high-reving M3. Kept seeing links of the 135i on the M3POST boards. Then, I remember the days of the mid 80's and those M3s. The 135i fit this bill perfectly! Add in $7k worth of Dinan and you have yourself a very unique car that is a deamon! I will be purchasing a 135i in the fall and I hope to be able to attend some meet & greets and hang out with a few of you, without someone scoffing. ![]() |

If I was considering a 1 series, the 128i 6MT with SP would be my choice. Then at least you get some real weight advantage compared to a 335, which helps make up for some of the performance difference. A nice, balanced car. The 135 is too heavy for its size.

Once you start throwing in the options that many people want, the 6K gets eaten away. Things like a high performance stereo, for instance, which comes standard on the 335.

i like the 335i a lot better, but no one can deny that the electronic LSD in the 135i is a big advantage on the 335i.. if the 335 had it then it would be a no brainer.

I like the new 135i. But optioned nicely we are talking 47k. THATS CRAZYYYYYYYYY. BMW marketing ploy is a little out there. That car should be AT LEAST 10k less than that. And with the 335 and the AMAZING engine in these beasts and the tunability of these and the 135i why would you buy a M3 for 20k more.
Dont get me wrong I like BMW but there marketing ploy is REALLY BAD. A 135 should start at 30k.....a 335 35k and a M3 ill go 48k. But now again you run into how good BMW made the TT engine and you cant justify the M even at that price.

![]() The 135i is not a sub-bmw. It's a performance version of the 335i. The One'r is more frugal and trades luxuries for performance. People were complaining when the E46 coupe was released, look how long it grew and how much weight it put on. Why is it, that everyone been saying the 3 series is getting too big, too long and too heavy for so many years, yet when BMW brings back the older style E30/E36/E46 size and weight. Everyone gets mad and calls it a "marketing ploy"? The 135i does weight 300lbs lighter(new info) than the 335i, shorter, more aggressive suspension tune, ediff, Brembo brakes, BMW Performance catalog support and not to mention a more intimate interior! Read my last post. Some need to learn to respect this car, I have! |

![]() Where is this new information with additional weight taken off the 135? I'm interested in reading more. I cant wait to see tuned & track ready (chipped, performance parts & stripped for weight) 135s against M3s. Those should be good races. Expect the M to win but a good race. |

Weight info: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4523
3219 empty tank, 3307 full tank when the car is put on an actual scale. Probably a few pounds lighter without the aftermarket LSD the guy put in, and a few pounds heavier for a sunroof. |

I personally would prefer having a 328 coupe over a 135. 135 is a bit too small and my personal opinion is that it looks like a 3 series prematurely taken out of a car crusher. Looks too smooshed. The front headlights look like the car is frightened.

I would say EVERY CAR accelerates slower from a 5 mph roll than from a dead stop. Why? You are not in your torque curve. When you launch from a stop, you can immediately put the engine where you want the power to be until the wheels grab traction. From a roll, you are stuck at whatever rpm you took off from. And the meaning of turbo lag for MANY turbo cars. |
