been talking about building a dual to single set-up since i got my car and your set-up finally convinced me to do it, sounds soooo good! exactly how i want mine to!

just ordered most of the parts to build mine, gonna do all the fab myself. still have to go pick up my tubing from a local shop, but looks like i'm only gonna be in it for a little under $300, hopefully i'll have all the parts by this friday and can do it this weekend, but i'll update once i get it done

No, I purchased one of those and it is designed for NA engines. That collector necks down to nearly 2.5" and is very restrictive. Check out Mandrel-bends.com they have better offerings.

Not your common offsets for an xi wagon, stock was 17x7.5 et43!

unfortunately i don't have a tig welder, just used regular steel tubing and mig'ed it, in AZ so we dont have to worry about rust or anything. Honestly not the greatest quality build as you can see, espeically compared to your work of art, but just wanted to get some volume, couldn't hear the stock exhaust at all. Haven't really heard it outside the car too much, but doesn't seem like i got the crazy turbo noise like you did, maybe cause i'm on stock turbos? But it's dead quite while cruising and sounds wicked at WOT

didn't get a pic off the car with the tips/hangers welded on

Awesome, respect for doing it yourself. Post videos when you have a chance, I would love to hear another single-pipe system.

Yea, they are back in style for certain enthusiasts, Tire Letters and Tred Wear have created some nice products that work well IMO (assuming they prep, install, and care is done properly).

While driving out to Vegas for SEMA a switched by backend from BMS E85 Hybrid to BMS pump to make fuel stops more convenient. The older pump flash uses an open wg cold start so here is my wagon at 100% Cold Start.

Also some rough idle presumably from failing injectors. I get a fuel mixture control code along with a few misfiring cylinders. I will be getting some newer index injectors to go in with some new NGKs.

OP, did you consider going with a 3.5" single? Especially seeing that you've got upgraded hybrids?

The thought crossed my mind but honestly I never gave it any serious consideration. For a moment I thought about a 3.5 or 4" oval pipe but it would have been expensive.

3.5" or 4" piping would be a good way to go.

Oval piping would be the best way to go if you are inclined! Honestly 4" oval would likely be the best fit for very high-hp N54s (if your welder can acommodate).

just a heads up, looking at op's pictures his car seems to have a lot more room around the rear diff than my e92 has, 3" was a tight fit for me, had to slightly dent the piping as it would barely hit and vibrate around 1.5k-2.5k rpms. also the tunnel brace is different, pretty tight clearance there as well on a e92.

you know this (single 3") would actually flow worse than stock? (twin 2.25")

it probably sounds smoother/not too loud because it's smaller/lower flowing lol

it's about 12.5% LESS flow than the stock twin exhaust!

People routinely oversize exhaust. At some point you're not going to need any extra flow. Dual exhaust on a civic, for example.

I highly doubt this flows worse than "stock." Stock has cats, a resonator, and a muffler (on my 535xi). Also the oem piping isn't 2.5" like some may think, rather it is metric and ends up being ~2.3". Furthermore my piping (maybe E9X too) is compromised/squished at the beginning of the cat-back portion which would be a bottleneck if the rest of the system had c-converters etc. removed.

Out of curiosity what measurements did you use for "stock exhaust".
