I was debating the same thing and have decided on the V1. I think it comes down to the type of driving you do, how well your situational awareness is, and if you want all the latest and greatest features. The Max 360 has literally everything and might just be an overall better detector but for me, I dont need all the goodies that thing has to offer. I just need solid radar detection for when I'm on the highway. I had a V1 years ago and it never let me down so I'm going the V1 route again.

The update to the V1 is expensive... i think like $200ish. If you go that route, sell your current one on craigslist for like $300 and some smhuck will buy it without running the serial number.

That's funny because when I find one's without the serial # on cragislist, I ask, they usually say they don't know the firmware, or the serial is "scratched off"

I figured since that V1 is known for false alerts, I don't want to deal with it. CHP's use laser 95% of the time so I'm not sure how much of an investment is worth it.

Yeah, V1 has been in the drawer for years now. Dallas uses laser and it's generally easy to find a totally non observant rabbit doing 5 mph more than I really want to do anyway.

I will undoubtedly get a ticket on the way home tonight.

lol that's because you know what you're talking about and looking for. Eventually some kid will think it's a great deal and buy it. The newer V1s have fixed the majority of false alerts, especially with the cars with parking sensors and active cruise control.

Then for laser, there's Antilaser Priority... the be all end all solution to laser. But $$$$$$$

For real? I did an upgrade like 6 years ago and i haven't read anything on their website about curbing false alarms.

It's called Junk-K fighter or something like that. My V1 was also 6ish years ago and I couldnt drive by an automatic door without it going nuts. Combine that with the ear piercing screech of it and I had enough.

Never had any reason to get another one until I picked up my M4. Not that I drive like an asshat but for that just incase when I'm usually merging onto the highway or feel like getting a good pull in.

I'm willing to give it another try.

Always! And have done so constantly for the past 15+yrs. I feel naked without it. My area police constantly drive around running Ka looking for some poor schmuck to ticket.

Around town I usually go about 5mph over the posted speed limit, which actually with the optimistic BMW speedo means I'm doing pretty close to the actual posted speed. On the highway I'll go anywhere between 15-20 over. Radar detector stays on all the time for both, too lazy to take it down for around town. I have an old escort 8500 which is pretty good, but the only thing that's annoying is the lane departure/radar guided cruise control crap on new cars that sets off false positives.

I have an Escort 9500CI with laser shifters and display built into the mirror (www.radar-mirror.com)

It's always on for me city/highway and the radar/laser shifters have saved me a few times.

Whatever system you go with, get the mirror tap and blend mount. It will be hard wired and comes on/off with the car. Best mod and looks great.

I don't believe in school zones, or people stopping traffic for kids, and I sure as fuck do not believe that a drunk would stop because a buss has flashing lights in the tail. The kids run from those bussess across the road without ever looking for traffic at all! That is not a sane lesson to teach to the ones you love, right?

I do however believe that making sure that my kids know that my only goal is to make them realize that when they are adults nobody will stop the traffic for them. And that when they are driving, the car will go as fast as they make it go. Their judgement will save their lives, and later the lives of those pedestrians they see.

( I speed with my kids in the car, and I make sure I tell them why that too is okay. I also drive slowly, let people in front of me, make sure pedestrian lookout is recognized and followed by them too. And when they clean their rooms, I take them out for zero calories donuts)

I'll remember your words the next time I'm standing in a pouring rain waiting for my three year old to get over his tantrum so he will look the damn left and right.

We were all that kid once, Lups, you know this...your persistance will pay off when your 3 year old becomes a responsible adult due to your efforts.

I truly hope so. My method has an effect on tire wear at least, I hope it will work on the kids too.

Good old 75 corridor - Richardson is just as bad. Plano is terrible.

I have one in each car - always on, plus I get the monthly or so updates through Escort with the latest uploads and stored locations. It's second nature now - always on; hardwired and mounted near the roofline by the mirror. I think it makes you a more attentive driver to your surroundings.

I know this corridor as well as both of you. Freaking crazy. Not just on Central, but the surface streets. They're some sneaky bastards on the streets of Plano. Some of the best hiding spots I've ever seen.

Nice setup, Mr Tonka you need to send it in for "junk K fighter" update and get YaV1 to lock out falsies.
