What would get interesting is if you asked how much guys spend on engagement rings. Here you will get many lies, such as when you ask a guy how much he makes, or his height. Yes, today the standard is > 1.5 carat, but that's easily done with low quality. Although girls have gotten smart in asking for the GIA report...lol If I had a daughter, I'd tell her no GIA, no dice.

Her birthday was one month into just started dated and I probably spent 500 on gift, dinner, and hotel. Our 7 month was last week and I bought her flowers for $24.99. We're also living together and while she still paying off her loan so I'm paying all the bills so her half is 850/mo.

Once I heard about a girl who asked for a bigger/more expensive engagement ring and the guy caved. I would have lost my shit if I was in that position. If it matter that much to her then I would let her find someone else to buy it.

As an exchange he gets three hot meals per day, he doesn't need to know how to change oils, he knows I handle the shit that lands on our porch and that if I spot his bicycle tire being low on air, I change the tire before he takes off in the morning.

The few times ive gotten home all messed up, limping, tired, with a black eye and all sorts of pissed he hands me a beer, and tells me there is an other fight still in me.

When ever a kid is sick and i can't sleep, eat or handle anything beyond waiting the moment I doze off to wake up with my nightmares again, he takes over all the family routines.

That isn't flowers or candy but it works for us. And I keep losing my socks.
Damn you two are perfect for each other.
You didn't hear his version

This is along the lines of what I was going to say. If I were to present a ring to a girl (which I never intend to do, because marriage is stupid) and she demanded a GIA report, I would kick her ass to the curb and walk on.

To Answer OP's question. I maybe spend $100 a year on the GF for "gifts". She loves me no less for it. I don't go buying her expensive shit as an apology. If I fuck up, she appreciates much more when I look her in the eye and admit it....you know, LIKE A MAN.

All this shit is near irrelevant, the true cost is either a) alimony payments or if she earns more then b) not having full time access to your kids.

Seen it happen to a couple of guys, decent men, they are BROKEN.

I got married 10 years ago and made the 'mistake' of buying a really high quality diamond at just under 1Ct. The mrs had no complaints but i noticed that as her friends got hitched the diamonds were ENORMOUS, many nudging 2ct but they were dull and sort of yellow, but it didn't matter, the girls had nfi, all they knew was that it was a flash looking diamond.

The bigger the rock on a married woman's hand, the less I think of them (and, really, their significant others too) as people right off the bat.

Same here. A friend of mine went through hell to be able to see his kids just because the ex wife was mildly bitter. He actually ended up in therapy, and broken would describe him well. It is very hard to believe men get justice in a divorce after hearing a couple of cases like this.

Well then we can be best friends for real, I don't have a ring at all, not even a wedding ring. The whole idea of wearing a ring freaks me out, the history of those is not that nice, and women needs to prioritize the life after the grand events instead of showing off a ring.

One birthday I bought her the E90 . . .

One Christmas, I took the youngest to the diamond store. He picked something else. When she got the present, he "volunteered" Mom, you have too many diamonds already.

Out of the mouths of babes!!!!!!

There will be a wide range of answers as others have indicated. Google will probably provide better data than a sampling of people from a BMW forum who stop by to answer.

Last gift I bought my girl was a watch for $250.

Last time I bought flowers it was like $6.00. Honestly I think she appreciated the flowers more than the watch! lol

The last "gift" that I bought for my GF (ex now) was ~$200 UPS shipping label that I used to ship all her stuff.

Usually gifts are 100-1000. The more demanding/entitled they get the less money I spend. Girls are usually pretty sneaky so they research your salary range, car/house value... And adjust expectations accordingly. :

Rare breeds like you are hard to find. I am glad I actually did find one myself. Otherwise, I would be happily single the rest of my life because I refuse to deal with the B.S. from the 98% of females.
