I'd be very surprised if it's bricked.
Likely a dodgy cable alright. Would be a good idea to get a CTEK battery charger as well.

You didn't have anything like a jb4 turned on during the flash did you op? Anything using the ODB port can get in the way.

Don't panic I've had failed writes. Always sorted by trying again.

The codes come up because the ECU is re-written and it gets confused as to what's going on. These get reset\cleared down at the end of the write process.

yeh I've got a new cable to pick up from the post office tomorrow. No jb4. The last attempt yesterday got to 27% with the battery fully charged at just over 13v....but i realised after the failed attempt that I'd forgot to keep the charger on..silly me. It was just a smidge under12v after that so im not sure if thats still ok or if it would have worked with it still on charge through the flash process or maybe its still the cable issue. Tomorrow i will have the new cable, battery fully charged and charging through the next attempt. So we'll see what happens. Will a CTEK MXS 5.0 be good for maintaining the battery?

Someone mentioned leaving the door open during flash as to not disturb the process. Cant i just close the door then start the process with an open window. Silly question i know :-)

Just noticed that ive been charging the battery on the standard setting on the charger rather than the sealed setting.....and the battery is a sealed one.
Dont know if that makes any difference? Plus its just a basic halfords charger, maybe i need to get a decent one....

Received the cable shack d can cable today. All charged up ready to flash....then it worked first time. But when i was trying to flash with the first cable i had that did not work, a brake pad warning came up on the idrive display to change the pads, i just ignored it anyway cause i was trying to sort my cable issues out. But now after successful flashing the warnings still there on the idrive for replacing the pads and the handbrake symbol wont go off on the dash and the "P" warning indicator doesnt activate when using the handbrake. Any ideas? Over the moon that i got the car flashed with map 1:-)

cant you just reset the pad warning?

Or maybe it was coincidental timing and the pads are actually worn out?

I'll try resetting the pad warning. Dont know about fixing the handbrake warning not working. I never had a warning about the pads before flashing unless flashings fixed a sensor issue....who knows..
