Holy crap... Despite having fairly conventional engine components on all my cars, I stopped trusting those places and usually either did my own oil changes or took them to reputable locations (e.g. the E90's first oil change was at a Euro shop, then myself, then the dealer since I had a coupon) ever since I saw a Dateline report on how shady those bungholes are... The last time I ever used an instant place was 2005 or so, and even then the guy knew I worked directly across the street.

it just blows my mind that a guy with a modern audi would go the cheap route to a drive through oil place. second, it blows my mind that the dipshit in the pit would cut through the bottom of the car and drain his transmission and try to lie about it.

I'm surprised they even bothered to cut the cover. I would of imagined them just not doing anything at all. Which I guess in this case would of worked out better for the OP.

This. I saw that post on AZ last night and couldn't believe what I was reading. The picture of the cut out in particular makes you wonder how it is possible for the guy working on the car could be so stupid.

Pro tip:
1. Buy synthetic oil and filter yourself at a local store or online. 2. Go to a local, trustworthy shop or dealer. 3. Tell them that you have your own oil and filter and would just like them to change the oil and filter. This is significantly cheaper than having a shop or dealer do the full synthetic oil and filter change. They overcharge like crazy on the oil and filter. I typically paid around $10 in my old Infiniti for labor plus around $40 by simply buying the oil and filter from a local store. Never had an issue. |

It's true even a monkey can change oil on a car..............albeit he has no clue what type of fluid to put where and gets inpatient with fasteners and covers....so buyer beware

HAHAH.. Seriously I was thinking the same thing. At what point do you go, ok I'm doing an oil change so I better pull out my box cutter and cut off this plastic cover because I don't think it should be there. Obviously this tech knows his shit way better than the engineers who designed the car.. How the fuck do you even hire a fucking clown like that??

The 10th, 25th, and 50th percentile IQs for auto mechanics are 75, 85, and 95, respectively. Their median IQ (95) is slightly less than the median for the entire population (100).

My wife's friend took her Mustang GT to one of these places. They drained the oil but never refilled it. She drove off and obviously seized the engine not far down thr street. Although at first they tried to deny it, they ended up footing the bill for a new engine.
