Yesterday I had the ar design 4" catless downpipe installed.

I already had the BMW performance Exhaust.

Cold starts are crazy loud, I want them to be way quieter, and low rpm, low gear acceleration is super loud as well, like 1st gear taking off slowly or quickly from a stop, even with a warm engine.

I feel like I cant drive quickly around town anymore without the car sounding like its on a track with straight pipes

Does anyone know if adding resonators will quiet it down?

And it really takes the refined feel away from the car.

I didn't both with resonators. Can't say I miss my downpipe at all though. The spool was faster with it, but I'm not really noticing a big difference in top-end power. When you're making 350whp, another +/- 20whp really doesn't make that much of a difference IMO.
Yes Resonators (one on each pipe) will deff lower the tone of your exhaust form 80% to about 40-50% I would say and it should eliminate rasp however it will not eliminate drone, but when you start modifying cars the car is sure to eventually get some drone, I personally like a loud exhaust but not a crappy raspy sounding one, I hang out with a lot of people that have evo's, z's, g's, and subie's and whenever they take off the loud exhaust sounds like music to my ears so that's why I chose to go with Vanguard because the exhaust is louder than the PE and has no to very minimal rasp because those exhaust come with built in resonators so I probably won't have to install resonators, unless the exhaust is obnoxiously loud, but everyone has a different meaning of "loud" but I will have an update as soon as I get the money to purchase the new exhaust!

I had resonators added to my car today, I have the ar 4" catless Downpipe and BMW performance exhaust.

It was obnoxiously loud and now sounds much better, still mean and aggressive, but not booming, raspy throaty etc, I like it much better now.

so the resonators didn't effect the sound just cleaned up the raspiness?

Can you post a video clip?

Resonators massively reduced the loudness of the exhaust. Some people say they reduce certain sounds but dont effect other sounds, that's not my experience, they have reduced rasp and made it much quieter.

To me it sounds like it did before the catless downpipe was installed (Which I actually liked).
It might be a touch louder than Catless DP + Performance exhaust.

In my opinion it now sounds like an acceptable daily driver that wouldn't attract the attention of anyone unless you put your foot down.

The cold start is much quieter.

I haven't made a video of it yet, ill try to.

On a loudness scale it would look like this

These are the setups ive had so far, loudest at the bottom

Stock Exhaust + Stock DP + No Resonators
Performance Exhaust + Stock DP + No Resonators
Performance Exhaust + Catless DP + Resonators
Performance Exhaust + Catless DP + No Resonators
