Not that averages are necessarily meaningful without other information but this works out to 77,883 miles so far.
Interesting other tidbit is no X5D is reporting this. Perhaps they are and we aren't seeing in M57/N57 section of e90post. |

That happened to me many times in the past. It should be a clue for everybody in regards to the reliability of the brand. Yes, some are there for oil changes and wiper replacements. OK, I get it. But all those brought in by a tow truck are there for what reason? |

The problem is the rubber wrap that is glued to the pulley get unglued. This is sudden, you loose power steering and alternator. It will smell burn rubber and you may see burn rubber fume from the hood if you are stand still. Without the rubber wrap, the belt is slipping on the pulley. After this failure, you have to replace the pulley and belts (replaced 2 belts in my car). It is very difficult to inspect the rubber on the pulley, you cannot easily see it from the top. You have to go from the bottom but then the belt on the pulley hide the rubber part. Maybe a mirror or a snake camera might help. |

The smell might be the biggest sign but by then, the damper has already failed. I replaced mine with the Febi branded one from Pelican. ~$200
I'm not mechanically inclined but I thought it was a simple job to do. The only thing that needs to be removed from the engine bay was the radiator fan. I replaced the AC belt and drive belt since i was already in there. |

Just a socket there and turn counter-clockwise and it should come loose. For the AC belt, you will need a stretch belt tool ($20) Last edited by chau; 01-13-2016 at 08:42 PM.. |

Any thoughts ont he reliability of Febi? I am thinking of just buying one of these and putting it in my trunk in case it fails when I am driving through Oklahoma.

I've never used anything made by Febi before so I can't say. Side by side, I didn't see any differences with the OEM one.
