Great Review cn! These are my next two, and probably last performance mods (for a while). I think these will compliment my U.R. Down Pipes.
Do you think a piece could be fabricated to continue the brace at the point where you broke it off... to continue and maybe Bend around the CAI pipe and to tie it back all together on the drivers side? Or is there just not enough room? Thanks for blazing the trail with the E93 CAI install, I'll be following in your footsteps...

Well when that situation presents itself, then i will see what I am going to do...I was thinking about that a couple of months ago, but I thought to myself I enjoy modding my car and I own the car its not leased, WHy shouldn't I do what i want with my car! I hopefully deal with that shit later on, hopefully much later!!

You guys in the states have what a 5 year warantee? I could never wait that long. I have 3 year warantee and i am not waiting. GET VERY FRIENDLY WITH THE HEAD OF SERVICE!! BMW's are pretty solid cars (especially if not in first production year). Persoanally, warantee wise, i just worry a bit about the HPFP. my 2 cents

Anybody else with the E93 going ahead with the UR cai can pm me if you need some help with your install!! Second day and I love it even more...The noise of the turbos and the DVs are addicting but not obnoxious whatsover, along with my exhaust, its a perfect compliment of all the mods together!!

I don't know who said the UR intake was cheap.
But the piping looks sweet. The vip, looks cheap actually..

sometime this week my UR cai and forge DVs are going in.
i am probably wrong on this, but don't the DVs open and close internally? if so, does it matter that much if the 2 DVs touch each other, or touch the CAI?? thanks

It touches it but not to the point of putting any STRESS on the DV whatsover...Where it touches is the DV twist clip, and not the actual billet machined piece...At first I thought it was not going to fit, but once the hoses were connected it was perfect...From the pics, yes it close but I know your standards E.N335 and I am going to say its a perfect fitment...No metal to aluminum touching whatsover!!

They are opening and closing internally. When the engine runs it vibrates and can produce noise when the DV's touch each other or other parts. I also expect it's not too good for the DV's itself. ATM they are separated from each other in my car by using a piece of a silicone hose. I'll make ( hopefully ) a new front DV hose on this weekend. After that I will see whether I need to make a new rear hose as well.

Yeah maybe your right, but I haven't heard any extra noise other than the CAI and the DV during my test..I made sure the aluminum part of the DV and the tubing of the CAI didn't touch...THe pics don't show it but there is like 1 and half mm gap from the metals...Although the tubing is definately touching the Dv twist clip in the front DV...I did some hard driving and didn't really hear anything out of the ordinary and I was looking for this too with my windows down...I also made my friend rev the engine a couple of times to 3000rpms to see if any engine movement would cause problems..From what i observed there wasn't any....

it will work I am pretty sure of that...I will post some closeup pics in about 1 hour or so!!!...Then you can really see for yourself...The front hose had too much of an arch to it once connected to the dv which causes it to bend inward towards the DV in the back....When you straighten the arch our it will put more pressure on the front attachment and not on the actual DV...I don't know if you understand what I am saying but it works!! Be back in an hour or so!!!

Here you go Eugene...some really close pics for you...see the gap of the DVs, thats after cutting off about 2 to 2 and half inch from the short hose from the front DV attachment...Before that which i don't have pics, the DVs were pushed towards each other and touching and causing alot of stress on the charge pipe!! Pic 4 shows the hose with less of an arch, thus creating more stress on the first attachment rather than the DV, because when the hose is attached to the DV, notice its on a pretty linear path compared to before's arch entry to the DV!!

from what i can tell in pics of the UR CAI it seems high enough to not worry about water. Living in Houston this would be a concern of mine. Obviously you can go in standing water for say.....but i wouldn't do that with the car anyway CAI or not. What is you opinion of the placement of the filter and water concerns?
thanks btw....nice install....also do you get any "whoosh" sound now with the CAI and DV, i have a CAI and Forge DV on my GTI and i got the "whoosh" after installing those two? |
