i recommend clean it and monitor it. It could just have been a little overspill from the oil cap when adding oil since it is so close to the cap and that being the lowest point it will accumulate there. If you clean it and monitor it and see build up again, you should be able to tell where its leaking from if you are monitoring it daily, then it could be valve cover gasket.

Edit: oops never mind, I see you did the cover gasket already, did you confirm it was definitely the cover gasket leaking?

Yes. And when I pulled out the old rear left bolt (with the collar) it was full of oil.

I should say I honestly still have no idea how oil got in that one freeze plug. The VCG WAS indeed leaking from the outside edge/corner of the cover onto the cat, NOT from the inner rim by the injectors/freeze plugs. That tiny bit of oil could have just been hanging in there for years. Even a bad pour doesn't make it into a freeze plug, given the raised rim cast around it.

So in response, I too have an oil leak on top of the engine. I just had the valve cover gasket changed, twice in one week and the issue still remains. After cleaning the oil up and driving it, it’s apparent the oil is “seeping” from the freeze plugs on three locations. My shop tells me it’ll be a $9300 fix. Can they be repaired or replaced without pulling the head?? Thanks

Pretty sure that shop is trying to screw u. I don't understand why you would change the gasket twice and not replace the whole valve cover. Take a closer look the valve cover is probably cracked. Never heard of a freeze plug leaking on these cars
