Intresting read chappers all I can say is we see a few with various issues and having owned one my self for over 4 years the rule of thumb for me is you've got to look at everything and everything carefully, in a nutshell overall the engines fairly solid the ancillaries bolted to it appear to be less so, especially the mitsubishi designed turbo's. Diagnostic and diagnostic alone gives you the raw data on these you have to go looking and again due to design it takes time, I'm not 100% sure how the network would go about this but if they use ISTA I suspect after seeing result they'll request a guided test plan which the system will walk them through its what you do with this information that perhaps will form the basis for moving forward discovering the issue and getting the right result. If the test says replace turbo's then perhaps that was the conclusion reachedbut sometimes due to their design if I remember correctly there are various comments listed re what else to look out for should certain issues arise.

On the subject of the mitsubishi turbo's it honestly staggers me that since 2006 when these first hit the streets they are still having issue with these units (where on the whole certain issues with these units have been studdied and acted upon by some aftermarket suppliers), despite multiple supercession upgrades and modification of the BMW supplied part, they are still proving to be a little bit of an issue.

Guess, perhaps that was one of the reasons of moving over to the N55 twin scroll units instead of the twin tub n54.

Looks like they have kept that route onwards with the newer Fxx cars too.

Its more deep routed than this I think
