Oh sweet, that will be a great comparison with all those options. Looking forward to what you find.

Here is a video where the poster compares the Phillips to a different brand he used to use which ended up dying on him so he switched to Phillips.

If you use Google translate to translate the German to English, in one of his comments he writes the Phillips is brighter and more importantly lights up the outer ring better than the other brand.

Video is not mine.

You can't beat this price for a quality name brand Philips product. Got mine for only $104 after 30% off!

Not sure if these are the best

I installed these on my E90 LCI and wasn't blown away. The outer ring is not only dim, but appears to have a yellow tint as well. The plastic doesn't appear to be warped or damaged, so I'm assuming that this is due to the design of the bulb.

I am fully aware of how the optic system works in these types of headlights, and am not surprised that these aren't up to par with other options on the market. I believe that this is mainly due to the fact that each H8 unit in the set has only 2 LED arrays.

That doesn't look good, mine doesn't look yellow like that. Maybe your outer rings are oxidized and discolored? There was a thread, someone was complaining about the same thing about a different brand, and the seller suggested they remove and install again. Did you try reinstalling them, maybe you don't have them in correct. You have to get the prongs into the correct grooves, and you sort of push in once they are in the grooves and turn at the same time until you sorta feel a click. Align prongs with grooves, push in and turn into you feel them secure.

I installed my X-tremeVision H8 LEDs yesterday and I'm pretty happy with them considering I got them at a great price (CAD$130 including tax for the pair). The inner ring is very bright, pure white, with no hint of blue or yellow. The outer ring does have a tint of yellow when compared to the inner ring, but it is still a lot whiter than the stock halogen bulb. Overall I'm happy with the purchase, considering I'm getting 3 years of warranty on them.

According to others who have installed LUX for their E90 angel eyes, they see a hint of green in the light output, which is noticeable in the pictures they posted as well. There is none of that with the Philips bulbs. When the xenons are turned on, the color matches pretty much bang on.

Intensity-wise, the X-tremeVision LEDs match that of the stock halogens. I have no complaints there.

I'll post pictures later but they honestly they are not representative of how they look in real life. The only useful shot is the one with the comparison to the stock halogen bulb, but even that it doesn't show how white it actually looks in person.

I double checked to ensure they are installed correctly. Definitely felt them snap into place.

I wonder if how I orient the bulb first has an impact on how it looks. One would think that the LED arrays have to be facing certain angles in order to properly diffuse the light in each ring.

I'll check it out and report back.

Found a new set on eBay for $85 shipped. Will report back once I get them and have a chance to put them in.

My findings:
Looks the same as the factory halogens except much whiter. May be incrementally brighter. Inner rings are bright and splotchy. Outer rings are much less bright and also splotchy. This "splotchiness" or uneven distribution of light was also apparent with the factory halogen. Depending on the angle you were viewing the halos at there would be spots around both rings that were brighter than other spots.

Yes, i noticed the splotchiness too and I'm not liking it. I think it's because the bulb only has LEDs on 2 sides that are 180 degrees from one another, whereas other LED bulbs have 4 sets of LEDs at 90 degrees separation. I'm considering returning them and going for other options such as HBP bulbs.

You hit the the nail on the head. H8 angel eyes specific for these vehicles have the LED's aimed at the fiber optic tubes to display all of the light it can appropriately. Regular H8 LED options, typically designed for low beam use won't have as efficient of output to the rings.

I run the HPB 240W myself.

What's the blotchiness look like? Can always use the Philips for fog. Which I might do since I need white fog lights too.

Jeff, do you have special pricing for forum members for your 240W? What is the actual wattage used.

Thanks

The fact that these fog light bulbs only have 2 LED's is also what makes the outer rings of the pictures above look yellow or green in color. when LUX Designed the modern design of the angel eyes ( which everyone uses now) we optimized the shape and style to focus as much light as possible into the outer rings.

Even now with our latest product we have worked with multiple designs, testing 2-16 LED's per bulb till we found the absolute perfect configuration and design of these. Too many LED's and they dont focus light into the outer rings, but only the inner rings. Too few LED's and you get what's shown in the picture above.

The Philips bulbs actually use 6 emitters per bulb, 3 each mounted 180 degrees apart. I don't have the same issue as the picture above and my complaint about the splotchiness or uneven distribution of light was apparent with the stock H8 halogen bulbs as well. I would be surprised if it gets much better than what I'm seeing with the Philips bulbs now.

With 100's and 100's sold you'd think I would but I don't. Perhaps a customer can share a picture though. Which is a reminder to past and future customers, we would appreciate some pictures to share.

Garage List
Just an update from my side on my E82.

The phillips harness couldn't really fit into the housing and seal it properly. It obviously works on E90's.

Here's a video of them though:

It is definitely still evident that the outside doesn't light up as bright...the video might be a little misleading at that.

I'll sell them off at a discount if anyone wants to give them a roll.....now to decide for me if I want the HPB 240W or the LUX 180....

Can someone offer a comparison or difference between those two?

Jeff is highperformancebulbs.com your site also, do you own that too, or that's the manufacturer?

No, they are a separate company and owner. We are just an authorized dealer for High Performance Bulbs (HPB)

We carry a few select chosen products on our site, however, we can get anything on their site if you were interested in something else.

If you'd like to support us, we'd appreciate the order on our site.

Just curious, did you try reinstalling them? I was looking at my angel eyes today and blown away at how bright they are, the outer ring is perfectly lit, even if I stand only 10 ft away. No need to stand 50 ft away to see the outer ring perfectly light up with these. Bright crisp cool white light. I'm convinced you have the bulbs in wrong.
