Thanks mate, yes I was asking how you removed it and used the original gaiter, but you said you bought a new gaiter. Assuming it comes away from the car quite easy once you lift the leather gaiter up, Regards Ian |

If your car is a MSport, your existing gear knob & gaiter are one piece.
So the only way to use your 'old' MSport gaiter with the new ZHP knob is to cut the gaiter off the MSport one. Then put a cable tie underneath the boot to make sure it stays held up against the new knob (or glue it). I didn't fancy butchering my old set up, as I'll put it back to stock at some point for selling the car! So, I looked on REAL OEM and found that the SE has a separate gear gaiter / knob arrangement. I bought the gaiter, and it sits perfectly underneath the new ZHP knob, doesn't require any mods at all, it just works! |

Currently my car has the BMW Performance alcantara gaiter/BMW Performance Shift Knob combo but was thinking of switching back to the standard glued together M Sport gearknob/leather gaiter. If the ZHP is better and an easy fit with the SE leather gaiter with no messing about I may well be tempted to go that way instead. Looking at the fitting of my BMW Performance alcantara gaiter there is a cable tie at the top, I guess the SE leather gaiter has to be the same to hold it up if the gearknob doesn't attach to it? How is the height of the ZHP compared to the standard glued together M Sport gearknob/leather gaiter once fitted - is the ZHP the same height? Don't want extra height/longer shifts compared to the the standard glued together M Sport gearknob/leather gaiter I've been used to for over 5 years, but if the ZHP and SE leather gaiter gives identical height inc extra weight it sounds like a nice combo. Anyone have both to compare? |

No cable tie required with the SE gaiter.
The opening at the top is just big enough for the metal gear rod to poke through, it won't slip down once the ZHP gear knob is fitted on top of it! |

Does anyone know what the height of the ZHP is like compared to the standard glued together M Sport gear knob/leather gaiter once fitted? I could measure the M Sport gear knob and compare to ZHP size but I don't know if the gear knobs fit over the metal gear rod in the same way/to the same degree so might not be a true comparison that way. Could someone with ZHP have a go at measuring the height from centre console plastic outer to top of gear knob? Can then try and compare and see how it looks, the ZHP gear knob looks a lot taller in the pictures but that might just deceptive... thanks |

They are about the same height once fitted!
No idea why the gear change is so much better once fitted, but it really does do the job! |

Looking at the first post part code seems to be 25117896886 but then mentioned its been superceded by a lighter version? If I tried ordering a 25117896886 from BMW would they just substitute it with a lighter part (does the lighter one have a part code to avoid?) |

To be honest I just ordered 26117896886 from Costswold BMW's eBay store.
Not sure if mine is 'lighter' than previous revisions, but I do know it shifts perfectly and much better than the M Sport one I had on there before!!! SE shift boot part number that I bought is: 25117595283 |

I'd hope they created a new part code for the lighter one but probably not just to make life difficult, I guess the one you got is very noticeably heavier? Think I'll try and order one and see how I get on, the extra weight would be good although the shape of the gear knob itself looks better on the M sport glued together one, will just have to try them both and see which I prefer using... |
