So I've owned three 335's already....07 e92, 10 e90, and my last one 11 335 E92 Msport. All have had CPO or extended BMW warranty and I would never own a BMW without one. You also need a legit SA, I had some good ones, but if you mod at all......you need one that understand wtf a 335 is to most younger folks like us.
I loved my 07, picked it up with 29k miles- had about 20k worth of warranty work on it, turbos, hpfp waste gate issues, all that shit. Worst reliability of any BMW I've owned all it had for mods was cosmetics and a JB+ for about 10k miles. Sold it around 80k miles because I was not going off extended warranty and too much bs with the car. My 10 was kept stock and had less issues, picked it up with 20k miles under warranty and sold it before 50k. Had injector issues, thermostat, overheated, hpfp and vanos issue fixed. Not bad but not great. My 11 which I recently sold, picked up with 9k miles, sold it with 35k. Hpfp was replaced, vanos, fuel rail sensor and some other minor stuff. Not too bad, kept it for 3 years and sold it because It needed the big services and the CPO was up in October. Didn't want to press my luck with very little issues I had. But just that feeling of knowing there has to be coming issues fucking killed me. Sold it and couldn't be happier. But I will tell you this......if you own a 335 long term, you (not an Indy mechanic) need to be handy with the tools, you have to own diagnostic tools, you have a place to work on the car, and it's a must to have another car option in the picture. It's also not if you'll get stranded, it's when.....so have AAA or BMW roadside. Indy's are good but not the most convenient depending on where you live. To me that sucks.....you pay to have a kinda-luxury sporty car and reliability is pretty shitty on average. I used to be a fanboy on many levels but to not consider other brands now is just fucking stupid. Cadillac, Audi, jaguar, MB and hell even Chevy and Ford are making cars that are competing/beating up the M cars for less money usually and better leasing numbers. I feel that the e9x BMW is the last of the long term own-able BMWs, but I don't think I will be purchasing any more BMWs......lease maybe, if the numbers are right and if there is something BMW makes that interests me more than the competitors options. I've owned bimmers for 16 years now (every iteration of m3 since e36) and I want my older ones back! |

The majority of the things you will service on this car are easy to get to, just maybe a few extra steps to move some things out of the way. the DMTL pump itself is about $66 and is easy to access under the car. The dealer quotes huge prices because they charge a hundred dollars an hour and use genuine BMW parts. When you use OEM parts, you slash that price by well over half.
For example: Dealer quote for front and rear brakes: $1400 My quote for front and rear brakes: $350 + 2 hours of my time. OFHG isn't that bad either, you just need to move the intake manifold a little bit to get to a bolt. The gasket itself costs $9. The charcoal canister is somewhat expensive at over $300 new, but it's much cheaper than having someone else do it. It's easy to get to as well. Now, don't get me wrong: these things are annoying to fix, and it's ideal to have someone else do it for you. For example, I'm going to have the dealer do my OFHG under CPO since I can prove it has a slight leak. Having a warranty is great. You want as many of those things fixed as possible so that you're not the one doing them, but once the warranty is over, you'll need to start DIYing to save money.
