I use T6 0w-40 in winter and T6 5w-40 in summer. I think they don't offer T6 0w-40 in US anymore. I've been using T6 since 2010. Probably 70-80k.
Primarily concern with OP is extra heat from upgraded turbos. I would address that with bigger and better coolant radiator and dual oil coolers that will cool the oil and increase the capacity and will not "experiment" too much with oil especially thick oils like 20w-50. If AT then install trans cooler as well. |

The n54 has tight internal tolerances and is prone to oil leaks. Thick oil could help with temperature but I assume it would have adverse effect on the other two above. Temperature should be addressed differently I think, like I said above with better cooling. I drive a lot myself, leteraly everyday, high speed and also stop and go traffic on I90 construction. I have the PPK aditional coolant radiator which helps when car is moving. This is why BMW went with oil cooler and add on coolant radiator and not different oil. Aslo they are very affordable aluminum coolant radiators. Intercoolers as well.
