Yes car is modded, but we have tested on stock cars with almost the same results. BTW BPC is a AFE Dealer

Completely agree with Bob on this. I collected and posted a lot of tests/comparisons on stock airbox flow issues in the "Filter Minder" thread. The stock cold air intake is too small and restrictive and creates a vacuum pre-turbo, which impacts top end power on modified 335d's.

Although, if you're willing to do some mods to the OEM airbox, you can eliminate the vacuum. I went through step by step process of modifying the OEM airbox to improve flow and showed how to eliminate the pressure losses and improve top end power. I was seeing the same top end power impact Bob notes.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...4&postcount=33

However, even with those modifications to the OEM airbox, my manometer tests of an AEM cone filter on the intake is still a little better than the modified OEM airbox.

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of potential fluid damaging my MAF.

Are you talking about when people over oil a filter? I've been using oiled filters for years on three cars now. Never had a problem.

Yeah but have an oil analysis before and after with a CAI on a Diesel engine and you will change your mind!
Not to forget your impeller turbine that will get sandblasted .....
Not so sure it's a great idea!

As Johnny has, I also have the K&N drop in filter as well. It gave it a more crispy throttle.

In regards to the comment about it's not a great idea. I have owned 4 cummins trucks and every single one of them had a cold air intake with absolutely no problems whatsoever.....not sure where you get the idea of issues you stated...?

Doing oil analysis is a good way to monitor the health of ones engine. When I was running the AEM dryflow filter (I'm less of a fan of the oiled filter media) this was one of the methods I used to determine if it was doing a good job of filtering. Along with periodically removing and checking the post filter intake track for dust and visually examining the compressor blades.

Multiple used oil analysis didn't show any negatives compared to OEM filter setup on my vehicle, nor did visual inspections. And I live on a gravel road and drive in dusty environments most of the year.

Some example posted UOA's of mine can be seen on posts #10 and 11 here:http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1045534

Of course this is but a single example, and I'm by no means advocating the removal of the OEM filtration system. Just giving some quantifiable data on the this subject.

i think you're a bit misinformed. i've been running k&n's in my offroad truck for almost ten years now (same filter) and whenever i take it off to clean it every few years, the outside looks like a crumb donut, and the inside looks brand new.

if the engine getting "sandblasted" and the "maf sensor getting covered in oil" are the only two negatives that could be brought up, i know its nonsense on the grounds of ignorance and incompetence. sorry for being harsh, but this is the kind of discussions i would expect on a prius forum.

I agree. I've raced motocross for 12years, dragged mustangs and it's always a twin air, uni or K&N and they all have either 2 stroke oil on the filters or filter oil. They have been proven to trap a ton of dust and sand while flowing more air to the carbs or throttle body.. Im not saying soak the filter but make it an even coat. Anything is better then stock restrictive air filters. K&N are easy to clean and re-charge just make sure filter is 100%dry before re-charging and don't over soak it. The K&N drop in filters have always been great to me and my MAF SENSOR or intake tubes don't have an oily film on them.

This post has gone off topic.
I have started a new one named, "AFE Power 335D intake is coming".
